what do you guys think is better a dry filter or an oiled filter and why?

Diesel Dawgs Performance 04-08-2010 10:05 PM

I prefer the Dry Filters. Much easier to use. Wash with soap and water let dry and your done. No oily mess.

If you want a dry filter intake, I suggest a AEM. They may be a bit more money than a few other intakes, but their filter is amazingly durable. If I can help let me know.

Most turbo diesel guys want to avoid the oiled filters, as the oil residue helps to coat the turbo vanes, which then attract dust, causing them to get heavier and ultimately tear out the bearings.

This would not be noticable in a non-turbo application, though a lot of gasser vehicles do have issues with the MAF wires getting coated over and sending wrong signals.

I run an AEM, and you can do a mild cleaning by just taking it off and tapping it on the tire and knocking alot of the dirt/debris out:jump:

I have both - AFE ProDry S and AFE Proguard 7 - both are excellent filters. There is nothing wrong with oiled filters as long as they are serviced correctly (that is, you dont put too much oil on them). That beings said, I still dont like K&N filters on a Cummins. JMO.
