steering box

I got my new bd track bar put on and still have slack.:argh: Got my wife to wiggle the wheel and heard my steering box clunking a little bit and saw the arm wiggling. Will the box brace fix my problem or do i need to rebuild the box and get a brace to keep the newly built one from wearing out.

Make sure your steering box is still tight.

The brace will help prevent premature wear to the steering box. It won't fix it though.

that is kinda what i thought RA. has anyone done a rebuild on one or would you suggest a new or rebuilt one.

I never had to look into replacing one, but I would go new or rebuilt. A rebuilt with a core would be a better price.

I have done some searrching and from what I found it is a pretty complicated to rebuild the box and the seals and bearings are hard to come by. 195.00 for a reman box is the best price i found so far. that plus a brace plus the bd track bar i just installed will put me up to 800.00 buckaroos. :dang: hope my wife doesnt see this. :w2:

i agree it better to go with a new or rebuilt one and 195.00 sound pretty reasonable i paid 235.00 a couple of years ago before i knew about diesel bombers :argh::argh:

Got the new box on. Man what a difference. Still a little play in the wheel but what the hell. It is a dodge. If I got all the play out it might die. I guess I will look into a brace now. Thanks for the help guys.

Forget that last post. My new box came with lots of slack so I adjusted that out. I have also noticed that it takes twice as much effort to turn to the right. Also the big cup on the front of the box moves in and out a little as the wheel is worked back and forth. I am at a bit of a loss here. :ouch:
