Best a-pillar gauge pod?

Is there a certain brand that fits better than others. I am really disappointed in the one I have.

LawnScum 03-19-2010 07:20 PM

i have an auto meter and it fits like a glove :c:

Jeff M 03-19-2010 08:17 PM

does that one fit over the stock a-pillar cover or does it replace it?

Diesel Dawgs Performance 03-19-2010 08:45 PM

Heres the thing about pods. There all designed to fit over your stock a-pillar. But in many cases I have just taken the stock pillar off and attached the new pod. Only thing is when you dont use your stock pillar you have to attach it to your truck with screws instead of it snapping back into place.

I just did an Edge Pod on my 01 and my stock one was junk. Fit like a glove I just had to use screws.

I'M gonna look at it again tomorrow. I just hate rigging stuff. I will try it both ways and see what I can come up with. My first issue was the speaker grill wouldn't pop into the new pillar so I may have to do some adjusting:)

What brand of aftermarket pod do you have?

They really work best if you cut a hole for the wiring in your stock pillar and mount the replacement to it. I tried just installing the aftermarket one by itself and it just doesnt work that well. I now have my replacement riveted to my stock one.

I have the isspro kit from dieseldawgs.com

DieselWeasel 03-19-2010 09:32 PM

If you have the tweeter in the pillar you have to put the pod over the stock pillar regardless though correct??

Jeff M 03-20-2010 05:49 PM

the deal is I dont know how "good" these thing are supposed to fit. have you ever had anyone have issues with fitment on your pillars?

Diesel Dawgs Performance 03-20-2010 06:25 PM

We don't have issues with them but theres always that possibility.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 03-23-2010 05:40 PM

I just got the Autometer one from Amazon.com. Fits great.

I did notice that the supply of Autometer 3 gauge pods is starting to dry up out there though. When I first started looking, they were available everywhere. Last week, it seems like hardly anyone had one anymore, so I jumped on a chance to order one.

I've heard bad things about the fit of some of the import versions (like the one that comes with Glowshift, for instance). I haven't seen one in person to say if the hearsay is true or not, but I went for the name brand while I could get it.

What year model truck do u have? Does the autometer go over the stock one or replace it?

does it look like this?

glfredrick 03-24-2010 01:56 PM

I have a 95 and the Autometer pod slides over the stock A pillar. It fits nicely, with room for the wires to go under the dashboard right at the lower corner. I suppose it could actually replace the stock pillar. I've not exactly tried that yet. Just got it and held it up against the stocker to see how it looked.

I'm planning on leaving mine black also -- matches the trim around my dashboard.
