Back pressure

I just put a straight pipe on my truck, i love the sound but what i even like more is it boosts off idle. But the guy that i consolt on decisions was against me gettin a straight pipe because he said that if there was no back pressure when i cut off my truck the turbo would keep spinning but quit gettin oil and it would eventully mess up my turbo. Im just wonderin is there any truth to this or is he full of it?

If this is true Iv never seen any problem that would lean that way
if it was to it will take alot of years and by then the mpg savings will buy you a new shiny turbo and a set of injectors to match:c:

This is another one of those controversial issues that have been proven on the Dyno's but straight pipes are cool so nobody will believe the results. Dyno's have shown a small power loss with straight pipes versus a good aftermarket exhaust. I can't tell you why myself. Most guy's say that diesel's don't require any back pressure but everything I've read and been told by professional dieseler's is that they like a minimal amount of back pressure. Were talkin 3 pounds and less of pressure.

Im not much worried about dynos but imo goin from stock exahust to the straight pipe is like night and day my turbo boosts from idle and alot quicker and its only temporariy untell i have the money for a performance exahust so for now im happy :yeah:

:tu: Anything is better then the stock exhaust. Them are the most restrictive things Dodge could have designed for these trucks and that's a fact.

Nothin wrong with a straight pipe as long as the law dogs don't pay attention to it but if your bein picky about wantin every every ounce of HP they aren't the way. And in some areas the law dogs do pay attention to them. We have more then one member that have paid that fine.

i dont see how it would matter having straight exhaust has nothing to do with the turbo on oiling when you turn the motor off the oil stops weather you have a muffler or not and your turbo will will still spin after shut off it spins all the time when motor is running and if you have a good turbo it will take a sec for it to slow down or at least myn did when i had my stock exhaust and i turned the motor off. now it might not spin as long after motor shut but it still spins

never heard that about wearing out the turbo faster :pca1:
