I have a S&B on mine... looks like this:
S&B Cold Air Intake | 1994-02 Ram Cummins 5.9L (Cleanable Filter)

The open side (which on mine looks like someone cut it out slightly bigger) is facing the passenger wheel well, out of which there is some other air ducting that comes near, but does not attach to the S&B.

My questions are: if the side of the box is open and the box is in the engine compartment, how is it not sucking in hot air? Also what is that airduct exiting the passenger wheelwell, and should it be connected to the S&B box? In general, don't you want straight exterior air ducted directly to your air intake/box?

Thanks (and hope the answers are of help to the original poster as well)
