FP gauge install questions
 

New guy here. I'm getting ready to install my ISSPRO fuel pressure gauge and I have a few questions. I'm going to install a line direct from the bottom of the filter canister using a tapped banjo and I'm going to ditch the isolator and go direct. So, reading all the posts I could find on here it looks like I need the tapped 1/8 NPT banjo bolt, a male/male 18 NPT needle valve, a female/female 1/8 NPT 90 degree elbow, some 1/8 x 1/8 pushlock fittings, and some 1/8 DOT air brake line. Does that fairly round out the shopping list?

Where can I find this 1/8 air brake line (I've never seen or worked with anything less than a 1/4) and is it okay to run fuel in this line since its not "fuel" line?

Where can I get 1/8 x 1/8 pushlock fittings? I didn't see these or the 90 degree elbow on Vulcan's website? Since I live out in the sticks, I want to make sure that when I place an order, that I'm getting all the right stuff to finish the job and since I'm due for a fuel filter change, it would be nice to get this done at the same time.

Just a little FYI Isspro will not warranty a fuel pressure gauge when you dont use some type of isolator.

You need a tapped 12mm banjo bolt (tapped to 1/8" npt).

1/8" air brake line should be available at any parts store. I lived in a town of 3000 people out in the sticks, and the local parts store had it.

You cannot get pucsh lock fittings for 1/8" line - you need compression fittings or Swagelok fittings.

Vulcan Performance will have everything you need in 1 form or another.

A couple of tips - put 1/4" line over top of the 1/8" to that the line carrying the fuel is protected from abrasion, and dont forget a needle valve or pressure snubber to protect your guage.

Tks Dr E. I was going to order the tapped banjo from Vulcan today but was surprised to see that it costs more to ship it to me than it does for the part itself! I'm guessing that I can find the other stuff locally but whats the deal with this banjo bolt? Why is it $12 for UPS when the part is only $10?

So is that a 1/4 line over the top of a 1/8 line in the picture? Or is the picture just using a 1/4 line instead?

Also, what should I use on the threads? I know not to use tape but it seems like something needs to be put on there to seal the plumbing up. Suggestions?

Vuclan told me they had no problem using USPS. If they will ship it that way for you, its much cheaper. UPS SUCKS. You probably wont find the tapped banjo bolt locally. Talk to Eric @ Vulcan - hes the man and will be able to piece together everything you need. (Im sure any of our site sponsors will be able to do the same).

No thats pushlock type line...which would work well but its is very tough to route since its so fat. The regular nylon type line is much easier to route to where you need it.

As for thread sealant use Permatex #2, or Loctite PST (which is liquid teflon). Dont use the sealant on the banjo bolt (there are sealing washers for that) the sealant is only for the NPT threads.

That shipping is most likely USPS. It's probably a flat rate envelope.

We charge the actual rate that we are charged. Unfortunately, it's much cheaper to ship as an individual than as a business. Just the way it is.

I always recommend buying enough stuff to pack those shipping containers! Split it up with your buddies or whatever, but the shipping rate is the same up to 50lbs I think and as long as it fits in the package, they will ship it.

I dont wanna hyjack a thread but I have my FP guage's lighting done and the rubber hose through the firewall done. My question is how do I bleed the line to my isolater from the VP?
Than from there how do I get the 50/50 antifreeze mixture to the guage?
The insructions say to use a seringe but it didnt come with it.
I'm just worried about air pockets and I want it to be accurate.
Did anyone use thead sealer or is it ok without?

when i put mine in my 12v i didnt use an isolater just got diesel rated, high pressure fuel line for it. dont use teflon tape use the paste type thread sealer on all pipe threads, no need on flair or compression if you go with break line

Just so you know, my gauge initially came with the isolator and I meticulously hooked it up and took the time to fill the straw with antifreeze from the isolator to the gauge. My gauge didn't work for crap with the isolator hooked up. As of this post, I've installed a direct line from the gauge to the filter housing with a needle valve and it works great. I also took the advice on here to put some 1/4 air brake hose over the top of the 1/8 line for abrasion resistance.

As fyi, the one thing I had a little trouble with was the needle valve. My local hardware shop only had 1/4 needle valves with compression end fittings. Well, even though they are 1/4 the threads didn't match up with my other 1/4 fittings. Luckily, I was able to source an adapter that fit the 1/4 fitting on the needle valve and matched the threads with the adapter to get down to my 1/8 inch compression fitting. Kind of a pain but now its working great and I've got peace of mind with my lift pump.

I have an airdog 150 and have the tapped quick connect line from the VP, your saying dont use the isolator? What about pressure spikes?
I have a small plastic hose with my kit with compression fittings on each side and from the guage through the firewall I have a thick rubber hose that the kit came with, should I just run the plastic line from the VP directly to the black hose to the guage?
