VP44 Conversion to P-Pump ?

The VP44 on my 1999 RAM-2500, seams to gone to never never land after 14 months of usage!!!. This is my third VP44 after 10 years of owning this truck. Of course I have modified few things there just for fun.
Anyway, this one was bought from MIDWEST Fuel Injection.

Anyway, I am dreaming about going to P-Pump.

Need to know if anyone has done it, and if so, what do is your honest recommendation.

Any idea how much it will cost?

Thanks for all the good information.

My buddy Tate converted his. Unfortunately, I missed all the work but he is very happy with his conversion. Although, I dont believe his cruise control works, but you could probably get it working somehow.

He bought the kit from Schied (I believe) and it was 3-4k total.

Its supposedly not perfect but a lot better than the VP. Dont believe all the crap you hear that its not very streetable and just for high hp trucks - thats not true. Hes somewhere around 400 hp.

Schied Diesel sells a conversion kit

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-03-2008 07:33 AM

yeah the kit aint cheap....its almost worth just buying a complete 12 valve and swapping it in.......

The way I see it, I can keep replacing these damn VP44's for about 6 times for price of one conversion!
I think I have to go with VP44 again. According to what I have been reading, it is too much work and $$$$$$$ to get it done correctly. Here I come MWFI dudes, another $1100 is coming your way.

Maybe you should try a different pump?...the Bluechip diesel pumps are supposed to be really good but are more $$

Mr.Krabs 11-04-2008 10:08 AM

I've had good luck with MWFI,the last pump I bought from them went 200k+,the engine block cracked and I got a SO engine,so the HO pump I have won't work on it.
Maybe you have some fuel problem?
Dr.Evil is right, try a Bluechip, they are supposed to be a dang good pump.

I thought Blue Chip is getting their VP44s from Salt Lake city dudes?

Are they rebuilding the VP44s themselves?

Dr. Evil 11-05-2008 09:43 AM

Doubtful - but I guess anything is possible.

FYI, Blue Chip diesel was the inventor of the performance fuelling box for the 24V. They know the VP inside and out.
