Actually here's the only proper way to tap your pump wire.:w2:

Improving Pump Connections

Clunk 10-28-2008 05:47 PM

Both of those look pretty good but I soldered then insulated mine:choochoo:...the pump was out of warranty and I got tired of surges w/mechanical connector that came with my Comp.

Whit 10-28-2008 06:05 PM

I know the scotch lock POS connector that comes in the kit is junk........................I also soldered and insulated mine

Queeg 10-31-2008 09:44 PM

Don't forget if using a stealth plate to use a potting compound on the nut holding the wirelead! This will insulate from corrosion dirt and help it from loosening up! Don't ask why I did it! Just do it!

Silicone works but not as well with the heat. I used aquabond , wich is what I use for work!

Just thought I would add my 50 cents worth! :)

dieselbeef 11-01-2008 11:33 AM

you got a way to make sure that it actually has made the connection..a way to test it...

DB Admin 11-01-2008 01:53 PM

Hit the throttle and judge by the smoke

Uncle Bubba 11-01-2008 07:01 PM

Lost my whole Comp today. Don't know yet if the box is dead or I just lost the display lights. The truck still runs strong but the Comp is all dark. I'll have to pull the Ohmmeter out and check to see where the problem is.

DB Admin 11-02-2008 05:09 AM

Them Boxes are junk i had 4 of them ... 4 !!!!

Jazz 11-02-2008 05:38 AM

Those posi-taps are a great way to tap into any wire. I use them all the time.:U:

I had my drag comp for years and never had a problem with it. And the guy that has it now is still running it with no problems. Hope it is something simple for ya Bubba:U:

dieselbeef 11-02-2008 05:54 AM

mines good then it smokes like a steam engine w it on

Mopar1973Man 11-11-2008 12:10 PM

I used a injection pump plate to tap my wire... There is no external signs of tampering with the wire.

Blackout_CTD 12-30-2009 09:31 PM

what advantages are there by tapping the pump wire? is the stealth plate worth buying? is there a horsepower gain?

RAW 12-30-2009 09:36 PM

I think the Stealth Plate is the only way to go.

I've also got a stealth plate on mine... Water tight and never got to worry...
https://www.dieselbombers.com/attach...1&d=1262275881

Programmer are only good for about 60 HP and wire tap is good for 120-150 HP gains...

Fiveseven 12-31-2009 11:56 AM

So I tapped mine with the tap that came with the adrenaline ,should I tap it in a different better way?

Blackout_CTD 12-31-2009 05:52 PM

so by getting a stealth plate i can gain more hp? i already have an edge and a smarty stacked

Fiveseven 01-11-2010 09:07 PM

If I tapped mine on the wire with the supplyed stuff that comes with the adrenaline I have just installed it but after reading this thread I want to use the VP44 Injection Pump Cover ,can I still use it can I just unplug it and tape it.Or what do you guys recommend?

RAW 01-11-2010 09:19 PM

https://www.dieselbombers.com/5-9l-2...e-install.html

Check out this thread, in my opinion it is the only way to do it PROPERLY.

was the vp being replaced in this picture?

rivercat 01-15-2010 04:17 AM

anymore they paint every bolt holding the cover on so if you pull them to put a stealth one one its noticeable...

Oven cleaner and heavy duty engine degreaser does wonders to paint on the screws...:lol88:

RAW 01-15-2010 10:49 AM

I just use a o-ring pick to remove the paint prior to using the bit.:rocking:

Uncle Bubba 01-15-2010 11:19 AM

I don't get it, so you remove the paint, the warranty is still voided so what's the point.

RAW 01-15-2010 11:40 AM

To put a stealth plate on. I doubt warranty is still valid when they see a wire tapped on the VP44 either.

Uncle Bubba 01-15-2010 11:46 AM

You don't have to remove the paint to put a plate on, the paint doesn't stop you from doing anything but if the paint seal is broken the warranty is voided. The wrench will turn the screws out with or without paint, that's why I didn't understand why the talk about how to remove it.

RAW 01-15-2010 02:08 PM

You are referring to the 5 point, tamper proof torq bolts, correct? I couldn't get my bit in there until paint was removed.

Uncle Bubba 01-15-2010 02:38 PM

Ya I guess maybe I used a knife tip to push a little out but nothin so fancy as cleaners and rubbin. I'm to lazy for that much work.

chpmnsws6 01-15-2010 06:41 PM

So has anyone tried to use their warrenty after having a pump tapped with the stealth plate?

There are some companies that will warranty a VP-44 with a tapped pump wire. Rip at Source Automotive is one (or at least he used to).

Fiveseven 01-15-2010 07:15 PM

Question I bought a vp44 from Blue Chip and I have installed an adrenaline w/pulse and tapped the pump like it said on the instructions on the wire have I void the warranty ? any way I have just received a cover that he makes for the pump and planning on installing it tomorrow.

I just hate purchasing from a non sponsor. No other sponsor will warrenty a tapped pump besides another 1600 dollar blue chip.

Does anyone know the truth about the computer sitting on top of these things? Blue Chip said other companies only replace them if they have to. :(

Obben 01-16-2010 03:53 PM

Stealthplate is just, what it says, stealth... for warrantyreasons. Itīs not the safest way connect the tap, but itīs better than the POS Scotchloks and similar. Best way to make the connection if you donīt have a very expensive crimpingtool is soldering... not very stealth, but makes for a good connection if done properly....
my 0.02$

Fiveseven 01-16-2010 07:43 PM

Guys I ran into a little trouble need a little help.I got my plate yeasturday and started installing it I had trouble unscrewing those torx bolts and I actually stripped two of them :argh: but did got them out after forcing a torx 27 key in ,they were super thigt. So know I need to replace those two were can I get that type of bolt or can I replace them with diffrent bolt .

Uncle Bubba 01-16-2010 07:58 PM

Any old screw will work. Don't remember the size, I had the same issue when I did mine. I had to take mine to a machine shop to get one out. I just put regular allen head screws in mine.

Fiveseven 01-16-2010 08:05 PM

Cool man I thought I was in big trouble.

Dr. Evil 01-16-2010 08:06 PM

Just make sure you get the right thread - you dont want to strip it. Sorry I cant tell you what it is - I have yet to have the pleasure of replacing my VP-44.

Fiveseven 01-16-2010 08:20 PM

Well I am at home depot and there's one that has the same tread and it actually looks the same check the tread on that little board they got and it is the same exept for head it's a hex.

Dr. Evil 01-16-2010 08:22 PM

Youre good to go then.

Ok so I finished installing my plastic cover on the vp44 that I got from Blue Chip and after I finished installing it when to turn it on and had the engine light on and I did the key thing to pull up the codes and I got this P0122 and P1693 and after that I turn the truck on and the light went out took it for a quick spin and it drove good as normal the light stayed off.Should I check something? By the way I did made sure the apps sensor was connected. Here are some pics .
