Converter
ok when I did my tranny chage with a new billet converter etc I added the converter switch. My problem is my truck will not lock up untill drive even with the switch activated. It locks fine in drive and od if I leave the switch on it will buck like a son of a gun when slowing down so I know it's working. Is there something I missed or I need to add?

Did you pull the relay out of the fuse box under the hood?

yes I actually used that diagram when I did this. Relay is in the center of my truck in case I need it. My converter will not lock in 2nd gear. I know this because I can make my tranny get hot really fast when coming up a hill off the higway. I don't know what is going on. If i put it in 4lo I can bring the temps down as the speed it goes into 3rd is a lot lower and thus will lock up.
If I was to tap the wrong wire the truck would not stay locked up and not downshift right? If I leave the switch on and slow down the truck lets me know. |
did you hook to the orange wire with the black tracer or is it different for the 01's?
|
yes orange with black wire is the one...

With that diagram the PCM has to send a lockup signal and the switch will hold it.

did you put the jumpper wire in place of it?
yes it does have the jumper wire. made sure it has good connection too there is more than one orange and black wire. i ran into this on my 96. unplug it and go by pin number via that picture to find the right wire. I only have one orange wire with black tracer on the center power module control plug in. I just tripple checked this. negative Captain.... this sends the ground signal to the lockup solonoid in the tranny that has a constant positive power source. this activates the ground in the circuit as the computer switches the grounds for that circuit when lockup normally comes into play but I used it yesterday and all seemed to work fine till I went towing a trailer and trans temps went wild |
