No FP again. DONE WITH THIS!!!!!!!!

I look at my FP gauge just before I pull in the driveway and it's at 4psi. This is getting real friggin old folks. I have reengineered the fuel system 2 different ways and nothing can maintain pressure. Tired of fixing the same problem due to low quality crap. I'm on my 2nd No flow dead dog, 2nd draw straw and plumbed this thing 2 different ways and still cannot get fuel from point A to B in a reliable way. I have spent more time and money making fuel move than I have spent fixing my last 5 trucks all together and I haven't even owned the turd for a year yet. I need this thing to run, not give me any more practice twisting a wrench (I gave that up a long time ago for a reason).

No more dodge, no more diesels, no more aftermarket, as all I've seen is crap from aftermarket lately. Going back to Ford and gas, won't even recommend cummins anymore after all these years. Anyone want a '01 2500 2wd very clean and only 60,000 miles? Get it now cause I'm dumping this bucket of 💩 as fast as I can.

How much you want for it?

So you won't recommend Cummins because of a fuel supply issue? The problem is NOT the Cummins, if anything its the Dodge wrapped around it. I'm really not sure what your plumbing woes are, but it shouldn't be that hard. I've had mine on my truck for 3 years, and mostly trouble free. Had a DSV I, and didn't like th e1/4 tank issues. Went to a DSV V, and it's been trouble free ever since.

Sorry, I got a little crazy putting down the big C, still love the engine, just got a little carried away and had to vent some anger before my truck got a visit from a 930SPX.

The pump runs like hell but it's getting air. Nothing leaking out, drained a sample from my prefilter (actually a seperator) and had 5 tiny droplets of water is all (normal south florida). I'm thinking the draw straw gave up or one of the fittings are leaking air.

I'm discouraged because I bought the truck for the cummins and for what I have seen them handle in heavy equipment and boats. The engine is great, just seems that everything supporting the engine is a nightmare and aftermarket looks good and works great for a short period of time. I got it cause I got tired of week transmissions, underpowered gas engines and fixing crap...... but here I am fixing crap on a monthly basis.

All this modify this and that to make it just work is crazy. I don't use my boat anymore because I am working on my truck, it's supposed to be the other way around!!! I am supposed to complain about the boat, not the truck.

RAW 11-16-2012 09:06 AM

I can understand the frustration, I have a long "To do" list for my truck. I am more than happy to offer any help I can give through a screen for your situation. If you like, just let me know.

RA, you have class my friend.... always there for all of us. I here the AD quick connects are a common issue and going to look there and check all the hoses. I just can't bring myself to drop the tank again though.

tiremann9669 11-16-2012 10:39 AM

Raise the bed it's easier :c:

RAW 11-16-2012 11:21 AM

X2 on removing the bed, if you can. I found it much easier than dropping the the tank.

Got my tools from work, this happens when I don't have them in the truck ofcourse, and put the test gauge on and 15psi dead head. My 1 month old isspro mechanical gauge with isolator and snubber is reading low. Where does it end? I am now going to have 2 fuel pressure gauges and a warning light/buzzer so I have 3 ways to know the whole truth. I may even run a 3rd mechanical gauge from autometer outside for fun. Now i'll have 3 FP gauges from 3 different companies cause someone is going to say the other 2 are junk and should've gone with the 3rd.

I drive around with 2 fuel filters, assorted fittings, spare lift pump and a buttload of tools to make sure I can get fuel to my vp the next time pressure drops. I have become a diesel doomsday preper!!!!!

blacksally 11-16-2012 09:12 PM

boats are moneys pits give up on the boat not the cummins lol i had my toner ring rip off the crank tare the bottom of piston 6 up i left it away put all back together and bang still runnin strong i have a stock fuel sstem till FEB and them im gettin a fass, whats with the fuel pumps on the pulley sysatem ive seen it uses a little belt wth???

Dock 11-17-2012 09:18 AM

Turns out that the isolator got whacked out on my mechanical gauge. So now I reinstalled the electric glowshift, took out the isolator (not a cheap thing to toss) and the pressure is fine. I am so paranoid about another VP that I watch the two gauges and I have my 8 year old daughter watch the road for me:w2:

Mechanical lift pump
You will still need an electric lift pump for the initial shot of fuel prior to start. I have learned that with any aftermarket system, it should be filtered prior to going through the pump. I had my first raptor seize due to a little piece of rubber. I then installed a new draw straw then put a vp max seperator between the tank and the new raptor while keeping the stock filter in the loop. This is the way we plumb the fuel systems in marine applications and it is rather fool proof and it solved all my issues.

RAW 11-17-2012 09:24 AM

Glad it wasn't a major issue. Any chance of warranty on that Isolator?

Dock 11-17-2012 10:15 AM

I called isspro and they said to reset the diaphragm but I just took it out. I have a blown Ranger that needs a FP gauge and really don't want gas in the cab, diesel just smells perty.

mike12v! 11-18-2012 09:34 PM

get rid of that draw straw and put a fuel sump on the bottom of the tank

Turns out that it was the isolator for my fp gauge needing to be reset, I took it out and went direct to the gauge anyway as I don't trust it now. I put in a draw straw they are trying out at Vulcan Performance and it works great, certainly solved the problem I had with the one that comes with the raptor.

RAW 11-19-2012 02:16 PM

Which Draw Straw do you have? I have the DS V, and am a huge fan of it.

Dock 11-19-2012 02:46 PM

I think that is it, they mentioned that they changed it a little, I don't recall what model it is or what they changed. I had to modify the top of the basket a little more and the washer it comes with to make it fit. I am a huge fan as well, those guys know their stuff and the products are high quality. :tu:

RAW 11-19-2012 02:49 PM

Sounds like we have the same one. I have had zero problems with mine, and have run it down really, really low. I park on an incline every night, and have no problems starting on a damn near empty tank either.
