Transmissions
I will be looking for a new or rebuilt trans in the near future and want some input on companies. I liked the sounds of the dtt trans it was nearly a grand cheaper and used all the same parts as the ats, from what I could tell. When commenting please incude brand or remanufacturer, milage you have on it, how its holding up, what you use it for (i.e. offroading, pulling, towing), if the company gave you any problems, did it include all the parts, how hard was it (if conversion to 5 or 6 speed), total price you have wrapped up in the conversion or swap, did you see a mpg increase, and do you like it.

Buy local and don't waste your money. Buy a good converter and shift kit.
Anyone who tells you buying online is a good idea hasn't seen how the mail order transmission industry works. Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk |
If you dont plan on going crazy with power I would just get a nice TC, and an upgraded valve body! That should hold fine
|
I would look at a DTT or DPC Single Disc Converter and a DTT Shift Kit.

By doing just the small upgrades you guys are talking about i dont think it would hold up to the beating i plan on giving it. I want to build it up around 500 horse it may take some time but thats my goal. I plan on offroading it, pulling a little, and general horsing around with it.

A good triple disk converter and valve body will handle 500 all day long.
|
500 Hp is a quite a bit of power. You will probably need billet shafts and a lot of other upgrades to hold
|
I recently reconsidered the whole 500 horse goal. Now I'm just thinking get it dependable and strong enough to tow what will probably be a 7000 pound trailer. I imagine that a tc, valve body and maybe a shift kit would be good for that.
Please tell me what you guys are running and if you like it. |

If ur planning on horse around n racing I would suggest atleast a billet. Input cause u go throwing a triple on and start launching at lights racing ppl ill bet urgonna be very disappointed in ur outcome....I'd throw billet flex plate in too... I used to have what everyone is talking about Shift kit w tc. I launch hard once and snapped the input... so now I bought a full built trans
|
where or who did you buy your trans from. And if you dont mind how much was it
|
I got a PATC trans its awesome I spent 4800 w o trade in and w triple tc. I'm pushing 580 at the wheels and no broken parts and i tow. The nice thing is I rebuilt my old one n sold it n made 2800 back :rocking:

Ok thanks for the info.
Again to change up the discussion a little and check other options. Do any of you know anyone who has swapped to a five speed, and do those still need built up or are they good to go as long as you have a clutch to back it. |
Ive done 5 speed conversions before. For good reliability u need a 1.375 input installed and the bearings shimed. U will need the correct input for Ur t-case or one that came from a diesel or v10 5 speed, assuming its 4x4.
|
alright cool I appreciate the info. Also how much of a pain is it? Were you able to do it smoothly or was it problem after problem.
|
Well this kind of thing is what I do so nothing was a big deal. I'd say Ur biggest hang up could be the t-case part if u don't get an other case. The whole thing has to come apart to change the input. If Ur interested I may be able to hook u up with trans, t-case, and the like. Pm me for more info on that stuff.
