Engine rebuild
Im looking at buying this kit. 5.9L Cummins B Series Engine Rebuild Overhaul Kit
I have a question about the pistons in the kit. What is the reasoning for goin to the large bowl piston? What should i do? This is for the truck in my sig. Thanks for any insight or pointers!! ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Im wondering about the piston because im worried about the spray angle of my injectors vs. the piston bowl. Just want to make sure im not doin this again for a long time |
marine bowl pistons are for the 155* injector pattern also some pre intercooler ingines. most everything else including your engine came factory with 145* injector spray pattern and a smaller bowl piston.

Larger bowl slightly reduces the compression ratio, not enough to affect anything from what I hear. Some recommend it just because of the "I can cram more air in there" theory

Well after its rebuilt i dont plan on going for anymore performance than what has already been done to it. I think i'll go with the stock pistons then after its broke in, re-tune it to the way it is now. The reason im rebuilding it is because it washed the cylinders down and took out the cross hatching. I think i want to send the pump out to get looked over but im not sure what i should do with the injectors. Send them with the pump or send them back to SDX to have them checked out?
