Star wheel adjustment with shop air

I'm trying to adjust the star wheel with shop air I set my in line regulated at 30 psi with free flowing air then I set the star wheel to almost full travel after that I lowered the regulated to 15 psi and I'm still getting full travel what am I doing wrong ?

Star wheel doesn't work that way, it only adjust spring rate for the AFC. Doesn't actually limit travel of the AFC arm.

I thought I read somewhere that you hook shop air up to it Set it to the desired psi that you want to make like I want to make 34 pounds of boost so I would hook up the air with 34 psi set on the regulater then adjust the star wheel until its fully forward with the air still hooked up to the afc

Not quite. There's a right up floating around somewhere. When using a larger turbo we use shop air to adjust afc preload to reduce smoke during spool up while maintaining quick spool. The air online assist you while trying to set for the psi the turbo generally lights.

Oh well that changes things so should I adjust it until its almost not seen in the hole or is it something I need to adjust by feel then ?

mysterync 02-11-2012 08:04 PM

Its all dependent on setup. If its stock go by feel.

Ok thanks I just was under the inpression that the best way was with shop air , so no I know thanks for the help guys.

The best is shop air but with factory fueling and turbo it dosent make a huge difference and its not to hard to tune. Im guessing you want smoke like everyone else here, if that's the case don't even worry about doing it properly.

No not after smoke just want the truck to get up and go the best it can so that's why I thought the shop air would be best because it would go full fuel with full boost without guessing that's all... What I'm trying to do is get it to go let's say from 0 to 60 the fastest way I can get it to go I'm really not even after the top end because I'm not up there that often just trying to get better low to mid range out of it that's all , I'm starting to think about putting a torque converter in it would that gve me better results .

mysterync 02-11-2012 08:21 PM

Its a combination, converter and turbo paired properly, a good injector with a properly tuned pump and advance the timing a little.

Are you completely stock?

Just air filter 3 clicks on gov springs full afc mods no fuel plate 4 inch exhaust. Thinking about putting in 4k gsk ever since I did the 3 clicks I have to step on the pedal to get it to start.

mysterync 02-11-2012 08:27 PM

I would do 4k spring set, a well rounded set of injectors and slide the plate or modify to your needs and it'll be a nice ride

What injectors would you recommend for my current setup

93ford 02-12-2012 05:49 PM

5x.012s with a stock turbo you dont need any more fuel than that. especially if you dont want a bunch of smoke

twinstang 02-12-2012 06:19 PM

Cool thanks for the advice, how about turbo upgrade without going crazy is there a upgrade I could do to mine or some other turbo that don't cost $1800

93ford 02-13-2012 06:43 PM

look for used deals on cumminsforum.com or competitiondiesel.com. or you could look into an hx40/35 hybrid, but that wont net you a whole lot more than stock. just save dollars and wait, no hurry. and those 90 horse injectors will be enough to fuel a 62mm turbo

twinstang 02-13-2012 06:46 PM

Nice thanks for the advice I will start looking now but like you said no hurry I only owened the truck for 15 years and I finally got bit by the mod bug
