Moving to 500 HP!

Bombers! I have achieved a place I have dreamed about and I did it today! When I bought my 1997 Ram 2500 4x4 diesel I knew that doing mods would void my warranty so I didn't think about it but always knew I would some day. I have a list of mods and would love opinions on how far I've gone. I will do a Dyno test but I would love to hear your speculation on where I am in terms of HP. Here is my list:
  • aFe Intake
  • aFe 4" Exhaust
  • DDP Fuel Plate pushed all the way forward
  • 5x.014 injectors
  • Cold Air Intake
  • Goerend High Performance Transmission

The Plate all the way forward say 100+ HP (do not do with stock trans)
5x.014 injectors = 140 HP
Pipes and Intake = 50 ish HP
Stock Engine - 180 for automatic
Now I hit 20 psi on my turbo pressure in an instant when 14 psi was a struggle, loaded uphill

So I see 290 + 180 = 470 so lets say 450 being conservative without a Dyno.
I can say that from 35 mph WOT I hit 70 mph in NOW, it hauls ASS!

My next move is check the turbo circuit for leaks, head gasket and studs, 4k gsk, 60# valve springs, thinking about fire ringing the head (expensive) am hoping there is a head gasket that is reinforced so I don't have to cut the head.

All in all, I am super happy with my COAL burner! Just taking it step by step. Oh, and there is nothing more rewarding then building your own injectors with new nozzles! PerformanceDiesel.com rocks! Just sayin, pop testing is over rated IMO. Break them down, stay very clean, change the tips, assemble with oil as the threads are very fine, torque them to 35#s, and put them in, torque the sleeve nut to 44#s and check for leaks. Be careful to clean the injectors in the head with brake clean a couple of times to make sure your not leaking, the retainer nut holds a lot of fuel below it, so compressed air and brake clean are your friend here. Check, if you think one is leaking, check the rail and line nut, spray and blow again, go for an aggressive drive and check again.

Rock on Bombers!

low 300's is my guess. when you do the 4k's you will crap your pants if you think your truck is fast now. your stock turbo wont let you get to 500 inless you absolutly abuse it. and 20psi is very low, put a boost elbow on it and get into the 30's

Kinda what I was thinking, he's gotta blott out the sun with 20 psi on a stock turbo. Boost elbow will work but I don't see you getting much above 400 w/o an aftermarket turbo and maybe 40-45 psi (no need for head studs unless you want to run some timing) which is the next neat little trick to pick up some ponies. Anywhere from 16-17* advance seems to be the sweet spot for a DD.

dont fire ring the head or block its not needed for what your trying to do. If your pulling the head for a gasket o ring the head while its off.

I'll guess 260-275 horsepower and high 600's torque.

Ok, got a few more mods, pushing 41 PSI now, 5x.014 nozzsels, 4" pipe, aFe Bladerunner, fuel Plate full forward at #10. Stock turbo is pushing what I expect now so I thought Air Dog Lift Pump, 60# Springs, and a 4K GSK, and Studs soon after.

your going to eat your poor stock turbo if you run that much boost often. and you will love the 4k's

So I guess 35psi is pretty much max for a stock Holset then, I'll turn it down and start looking for un upgrade. Damn things are expensive though, any tips on what to get? Looking ata Phat Shaff or BatMoWheel s300.

do 4k gov springs next by far the best mod you can do. if you use your truck as a truck look into a 62mm turbo much bigger than that and they arnt much fun pulling anything. i like my super B, its small but works pretty well. and look for used stuff. you can save lots and lots.
