Number 10 fuel plate

How much HP and torque increase?

RivalRacing 01-23-2012 05:56 PM

Depends on what else is done. If you're stock, it isnt a lot, BUT - it does add to the driveability of the truck. I found the stock 160hp just about unbearable in my 96...

Here is the power rating chart from TST who was one of the early pioneers of selling the plates:

Save your money and grind your own. Rework your afc while you have it out and then tune the afc to control the fuel. Total payout 0 Real nice performance gain for zero money outlay.

Thanks. I've seen the chart, was just wondering if anyone has put theirs on a dyno.
Mine is a '96, so it sprays a bit more fuel (as the chart also indicates).
96-98 had most HP potential with stock injectors.

Bought a #10 plate for $27 including the new fitting to precisely control the amount of boost.
I can be pretty redneck, but grinding a fuel plate myself would NOT equal precise fueling unless I got it EXACT. Then you'd have to have a plate to compare it to in person.. hard to grind one from a drawing online.
Good thing is you can buy one for 27 bucks on ebay, it's not CNC'd billet but it will work just the same. My deal is I want good power and limited smoke. Smoke is wasted fuel.

gwhammy 01-25-2012 04:12 PM

Each to his own, they have gotten alot cheaper over the years. I ran a 100 plate took it out the other day when I was having boost problems just to cross that out as a problem. Fueling didn't change, the afc or rack plug stops it before it gets to the plate. I am going to put it back in but I have worked the afc over and have it working pretty good to control fuel.

Make sure the diaphragm doesn't have a tear in it.
The fuel plates by BD are still about 220 bucks.. way too rich for my blood.
A 27 dollar (shipped) cast plate will last the life of the truck, and you get the exact fueling profile you desire.

I chose #10 (330 HP / 750 TQ) because I want to maintain fuel economy even if I'm heavier on the pedal. The other plates over-fuel and blow black smoke... that's wasted diesel.
Only time you should have a puff of smoke is when you're starting from a stop, just to build a quick hit of boost.

It also includes the fitting for the AFC housing that controls the boost limit before the waste gate kicks in. Also known as a "boost elbow" except this is a straight fitting.
You can't tell from the pic but it has a TINY hole in the center of the fitting, just enough to let a tiny amount of air through which allows increased boost. Safer than simply clamping off the wastegate line on the turbo, which can be dangerous.
5.9L Dodge Cummins Diesel Fuel Torque Plate #10 10 | eBay
That's the one I bought.
Looks like it's machined from 6061 cast aluminum

But if I could do it over again I MIGHT buy this one, which is machined from cast steel and then heat treated. Might be imported though?? Sellers name says importsomething?
DODGE CUMMINS DIESEL FUEL TORQUE PLATE SOLID #10 # 10 | eBay

Either way you are looking at 28 bucks.
Aluminum or steel.. your pick.
I went with the aluminum because it says it is Made in USA.
The Chinese get enough of our money.

i personally think these fuel plate HP #'s are BULLSHIT!!!!! put it in and tell us what you get. i bet you will be as sad as i was when all my truck had in it was a modded fuel plate. i believe these #'s they come up with are on a big nasty truck. your NOT gonna get 70 some HP and 300 and some LBS of TQ! it aint happinin. they are nice pieces to tune with but not rate HP and TQ with. in my opinion

Gunmetal 01-28-2012 05:36 AM

I can tell you from what I experienced they are not BS.
My truck will burn clutch if I get on the throttle too quickly.
Fuel plates definitely work... I suggest you get the one that best works with your setup.

Even with 307k miles on my truck, it went from under powered WELL OVER 100HP gain.
Acceleration is very quick, I need install new governor springs so it will fuel longer.

The plates work, trust me.

They are dyno tested on 5.9L cummins... same as what is in your truck.
The numbers are NOT from a big rig.

Some plates add so much power it will burn up your clutch if you mash the pedal.
Lose the denial and get a plate. :rocking:

turbo2332 01-28-2012 08:18 AM

they are still bogus uggg... a fuel plate isnt gonna take a 160hp pump to 260hp its just not gonna happin believe the hype if you want but it just wont.
does it add some power yes.
will it allow for more power in the future yes
is it a good upgrade yes

but some gov springs in it after you play with your heart ache fuel plate for a few days and let us know what made the big difference? because i a fuel plate is worth 100hp than 4k gov springs are easily worth 250hp so you should be in the 500hp range! (BS)

HP #'s are bogus just like a set of injectors that say they are 140HP or whatever on a stock truck you might get 50 or 60 out of them maybe.

hell a turbo swap on a stock truck if you stay on the usable side MIGHT get you 50hp and 150lbs of tq! a fuel plate will help you get that 50 extra HP but not a 100 on its own.

get a fuel plate by all means its a good mod just dont get stuck on theses HP #'s
