98 2500 12V 4x4

Hey everyone! First of all I have been reading threads on here for years and just became a member. I have a 98 12V 4x4. Upgrades include 80 horse injectors, timing advanced to 16 degrees, cold air intake, electric fans, KDP fix, boost, fuel pressure, and pyrometers gauges, no fuel plate, and AFC adjusted. All this is backed by a 47RE with Suncoast internals. I was wondering what my next upgrades should be! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Sounds like time for turbo upgrade with some gov springs and delivery valves. Also be careful with no fuel plate and a functional afc.

Why should I be careful with no fuel plate? Also, it has a set of 3K governor springs. Forgot to add that.

Also, what is a good turbo recommendation? On my 24V I had a BD Super Special. I'm considering going with the Industrial Injection Silver Bullet. Probably a 64MM.

i would buy your special. and put 4ks in it!

12V98 01-23-2012 01:57 PM

The Special I had was badass! I also know a guy who runs the HX35/HT3B twin setup. Any opinions on that?

MillerBoyzDiesel 01-23-2012 02:34 PM

4k's are the way to go. Usually with no plate and afc still hooked up than can be a recipe for run away engine. I know alot of guys run with no plate but, Ive heard stories where the afc foot can hang the rack and cause run away. They may have had a diff. rack plug installed too, cant remember the details.

I'm not gonna fuck up anything throwing 4K's in it? I'd hate for that to happen. Two weeks after I got my 24V, I burnt a ring and had to do a rebuild. I'd hate to go through that s**t again.

Running no plate and getting your rack travel stuck is a myth.

turbo2332 01-23-2012 09:12 PM

just do the 60lbs valve spring when you do it. chances are it wont go past 3500 is under aload. it will free rev higher but prolly not working. mine dont anyways

Ok...So today I went and got my Super Special back....so that will be the turbo. I have the 4K's on the way. Also a set of DDP Delivery Valves. Where should I go next? Also, my pump timing is at 16 degrees...should I go more?

turbo2332 01-24-2012 09:27 PM

wait to see how the truck acts. what size DV's did you go with? hope you still have a plate to tune with? you VERY well may need it soon!

12V98 01-24-2012 10:04 PM

Yes I still have a fuel plate to work with. And also, I'm not sure. I know they're DDP and they're supposed to give you 20% more HP and less EGT/smoke when compared to 191's.

turbo2332 01-24-2012 10:28 PM

they are prolly .024's? they are just a bit bigger than 191's. they will fuel... you will get the EGT's and smoke still. i would advise getting into the habbit of knowing exactly what your buying. hard on the wallet sometimes. i think you will be happy with your set-up though. maybe a bit laggy witht he special but not horrible specially if you dont tow or anything. should be able to tune a pretty nasty DD out of it.

and as for what to do next your getting close to the end of a budget truck. next steps start to get pricey

If you go anymore than that you may want to think about head studs.... actually even if you dont its good insurance :tu:

I just installed studs. What is a good number to advance to?

turbo2332 02-06-2012 02:56 PM

is the head o ringed? 16-18 will prolly be a good starting point.

I am about to get it O-Ringed. And it is currently set at 16*.
