Timing

I found a guy that's gonna do my timing for a decent price and have heard he's really good. But my question is they say 16.5* is max without studs. If I do 17 with my stock studs will that .5* actually be that much more. I'm getting studs in about a month give or take. Would 17 really be to much for the time bein

I'm running 17 on my stock gasket and bolts with no problems so far (knock on wood). But keep in mind, what works for one truck may not necessarily work for another. If you set it at 17, you might just want to take it easy until you get your studs in.

just wait till you get your studs im then crank it up higher.... ull be fine just go easy and dont mash on it untill its at full running temp

Ok. Thanks guys for the information

you dont need studs to run 25* timing... even with a 66mm charger and 5x.016s with lasers....just retorque your bolts ... dont do rings either, you can do a better gasket with studs and save the headache down the road... people preach studs here but if i was given my set that i have i would be running my marine head bolts with my 72mm charger... if keating machining can make 1600hp with stock head bolts just retorqued then you can run more timing...

yea im making a little less than 500 on new stock bolts torqued down to 155 no problems yet well see how far i get but if you already have the studs coming i would just wait to turn up the timing if your forsure doing studs i would just play it safe just in case otherwise order up some stock bolts n torque em down

I appreciate everything. And itll be a month before I order them. But I'm wanting to shoot for high 6 low 700hp range should I just go to 14mm studs now or would 12mm do the trick

I wouldnt even order them. Overated by all means. Retorque them good and tight 130lbs or so with small increments and time to cool down and let the truck warm up before being flogged upon and your fine.
