engine rebuild

my truck has to much blow by and oil was coming out of the dip stick the guy at the shop said an engine rebuild wouldnt be worth it. he said that you could just plug up the dip stick and it might help. i would really like to rebuild it but i dont now if it would be worth the time and money. if anyone has any input it would really help thanks

that man is crazy! the core on the engine if you were to trade it in on a new reman engine is over $2000. he probably wants it for himself! unless you have major components like the block that is demolished then a rebuild is definitely worth it! my truck has 249000 mi and has never been into! if you can get that much more out of it after a rebuild i would think it is definitely worth it. usually blowby can be fixed with rings and maybe rebored and pistons.

is the truck in good shape other wise? if it is why wouldnt it be worth it? you spend 4,000 on a full rebuild she is ready for another 400,000+ miles. if the body is decent i say its worth it. truck payments suck! also you could just do rings if blow by is the only issue.

the whole rebuild kit with bearings, pistons, rings and gaskets, everything you will need except machine work, will run you about $700-800, i just got my block board .20 over and head decked and it only cost me 200$ in machine work

if its leaking oil out the dip stick you could pull the oil cap off and let it vent there, that will stop the leak but make a mess under there, before i rebuilt mine i rigged up a tube that went from the oil cap to the turbo intake tube to use the blow-by back thru my motor and it worked pretty well for me

i just had the truck repainted so the body is perfect. the engine is good but just has the blow by problem. the tube from the oil cap to the turbo intake??? dose the oil form the cap go the the turbo?
thanks for all the input guys

Are you talking about the oil fill cap? (where you add oil to the motor)?

i guess.?

My bad, I just re-read the thread and now understand what's going on.

Is the blow-by bad enough to push the dipstick tube out a bit or does it just drip a little oil on to the injection pump? My buddy just bought a 95' 12valve and his dipstick seal was so bad that it just dripped and made a mess all over the injection pump. He has some blow by (that's how the oil is getting up there in the first place) but it was just a bad dipstick seal causing the issue, not excessive blow-by. $75 at the dealership for a new dipstick and the drip is fixed.

the dipstick has a good seal it just pushes it out and oil makes a big mess all over right side of the motor(left if your in the diver seat)

I would run it until it blows up. Save your pennies up and build yourself a good motor then. Use this time to research, research, research.
