Guages..

Just curious im buyin guages for my 97 12valve cummins getin ready to have it turned up, im buyin a pyro,a boost and for my 3rd guage i was wondern if i should get the fuel pressure or the trans temp??? sadly it is an automatic

Since it is an auto, you should really think very seriously about getting the trans. temp. gauge as heat is what hurts/destroys the transmission. The stock transmission can barely hold the power produced by a stock engine, once you start to turn it up, the transmission will start to slip and then its time for either a rebuild with heavier duty parts, i.e. valve body, clutches/bands, deeper pan, etc. or a new better transmission.

ok thanks and i figured the tranny would start to go out and my plans are when it goes out i want to replace it with a 5 or even 6 speed if it will fit.. so if it comes down to that is a factory manual tranny gunna hold up fine or do i need to get one thats been beefed up??

The easiest would be to get a NV4500, as these were put into these trucks as stock transmissions. You would need a better than stock clutch, however. The NV4500 is a strong transmission, so you wouldn't need to worry about it until you go over 400hp. If you do this route, it is better to get a donor truck, wrecked, bad engine, etc. for all the parts that you will need. Then sell what is left of the truck as parts to offset the cost of the new transmission.

Alrite man sound good thats prolly what ill end up doin...thanks for your help

one more question bout getin a doner truck..is it a must that it be a 97 the same as my truck or could it be a 96 95 94 also??? being that there all 2nd gen 12valves...

I would think that it needs to be close to the year of your truck as some model changed mid year. However, everything should be close in any of those trucks.

get a trans temp for sure... dont go smaller than a 40psi boost either... they are usless after minor mods lol...

if your going to change to a manual and your all fired up about the swap the just blow up the auto and gaone do it. put the fuel pressure gauge in now, why work on something you don't want or don't care about having. manuals don't need temp gauges. everyone needs fuel pressure.:tu:

Glowshift have a bad rep, I'd recomend Isspro or autometer guages :c:

Second'd. And while it still won't be cheap, you can get a pretty good price on them here in the Armory.

I bought a 3 in one for my jeep diesel conversion. its been installed for all of 2 months, but works as its supposed to.

I absolutely hate it though. I can do without the goofy color change options, and the beeping when I start my rig, and the fact it is bright as all hell with no way to dim it.

It really belongs in some mexican kids honda, with the backlight set to the same color as his under car LEDs.
