best intake.. reccomendations?

i have a cold air, but looks pretty home rigged..
i just bought the truck and am going to start to b uild it into a pull truck (but keep streetable for now as well)
but im going to replace it and was curious which i should go with. i was thinking afe stage 2? inputs?

also which intake elbow to get...afe bladerunner, banks twin ram...etc?
thanks for the help

94cummins12v 08-23-2010 11:24 PM

the intakes have no performace gains on the 12v the banks twin ram is realy the ony one that does anything buy equaling the flow of air to all cylanders people just put them on the 12v because the look cool

cumminspwr11 08-25-2010 05:58 PM

ya dont wast your money on that, i just bought a afe filter and tore the stock box out and put the filter in with a 4" piece of pipe, just makes the turbo louder really and maybe spool a tad better or maybe thats just because i deleted my plugged cat at the same time lol, which ever it was it sound better

posmx 08-31-2010 09:25 PM

yea i think im just gonna buy afe stage 1 for now and maybe a torque tube if i feel the need later

oglejust 08-31-2010 10:52 PM

ive got a afe filter hooked to my stock tube.. a piece of pvc does the connection

posmx 09-01-2010 07:41 PM

pic of that pvc? just curious what it comes out lookin like

oglejust 09-01-2010 09:27 PM

the pvc is inside the filter and the hose.. u cant see it, it just gives the filter and hose something to clamp to so theyre connected

posmx 09-01-2010 09:43 PM

alright thats what i was confused about..how you had it off the turbo, but the way yours is is how mine is now

not 100% true they do help with air flow and if you get a true CAI it will make intake air temps go down. they do make a performance (1-5 HP) and MPG (0 -.5) gain but it is so little that is is not given credit i would go with some kind of kit imo

TruePerformanceDiesel 09-02-2010 02:29 AM

I would go with somthing like this. Has a little more engineering than a BHAF.

me too run that with the old smokey mount on my 1st gen and going to run a BHAF on the puller too!

NadirPoint 09-02-2010 01:27 PM

Don't waste your time on a BHAF if you are not going to properly enclose/heat shield it. The added intake temperature more than cancels out any gain in airflow as far as power production is concerned. You won't need that much air unless you are making 400HP anyway. The stock 1st Gen filter is rated at 450CFM, so good up to around 300HP. They were better flowing filters than what came out on the 2nd Gen's. The airbox is the restriction on a 1st Gen, and they can be fairly easily modded to increase "cold" airflow. It sounds like you already lost the stock setup somewhere along the way.

Prolly like a AFE Pro5R filter on a custom intake tube and relocate my battery box. So i am sucking air right at the front on the truck

Red_Rattler 09-02-2010 02:39 PM

I agree with the heat schield as well, I'm just goin to make one out of the sheet metal... Still cheaper than most options

I like it also, its pretty good stuff. I tried to push it in to see how strong it was and its pretty stout. Should keep the big stuff out at least.

"Compitition use only" :D

NadirPoint 09-07-2010 08:27 AM

That would be better used for draining spaghetti.

to let cool air into the turbo while keeping the bigger things out, not as much dust and dirt get in there as you may think

lol

tiremann9669 09-07-2010 09:26 AM

I'm suprised I don't see anyone runnong a hood scoop ducted to thier air intake, like the old Ram Air musclecars. That would have to be cooler than any air comin out of the engine compartment. :c:
