40+ too much?
Put a #100 plate in my truck this weekend in the full foward position, then back 1/8".
Boy what a difference....played with the starwheel to clean up some of the smoke and got it pretty nice. But when i romp on it aside from my clutch saying "no" my boost gauge shoots up to 40+ psi, from what ive read this is not good for a stock turbo. From what i can tell some one installed a boost elbow on top of the afc previously. What is the proper way to lower my boost, or should i look for something that maybe someone "touched"? Also looking at a new clutch, wondering how much more pedal effort is required for a dd setup. |
i pulled my plate and turned in my starwheel, but didn't slip my clutch until i put the HO sticks in it like you have. if you don't have the money now, back it off just a bit to save your clutch, your right on the edge of slipping it. from what most people say, i have yet to see a map, the hx35 is blowing hot air after 35psi. do you have a 40psi gauge pegged, or do you have an actual peak #? is your timing stock?
If you want that kinda power, start planning on some upgrades. first a southbend or valair, then start planning on head studs if you wanna put a turbo on it and run that hard. IMHO. |
40 psi is more of a problem with a stock HG then the safety of the turbo. HX35 are solid and take a lotta punishment. Problem is above 35 psi they are not helping make power so there is no point. Head studs and clutch my friend.

for a dual disk there is a slight increase in pedal pressure if you upgrade the hydro as well

i got a super b turbo i can push 50 psi. when i had my hx35 i could almosn get 40 psi. i have talk to alot of diesel shops in tn and they said you could push 40 psi without and head studs

it read 42-43psi on a 60 lb gauge, my timing is stock, anyone know of any shopts in ct that will time a cummins, not to many diesel shops that i know of around here..

back off on the boost elbow some, there should be a little allen screw

ok my boost elbow isnt adjustable.....its a solid piece. Also would i be able to install head studs w/o pulling the head and disturbing the gasket? or is that just a bad idea..?

you can, pull one head bolt and replace it with a stud, and so one and so on

u can do them 1 at a time.. ull have 2 have the 6 that hold the rocker pedistals off at the same time so u can get them milled. or bbd performance (sponsor on this forum) sells the studs and rocker pedistals already milled and u can do them 1 at a time like that.

this may not be the best advice but a new a kid that peaked out his dodge on a 60PSI gauge with no head studs and a hx35turbo the only problem was that he went through about 4 turbos so u can run higher but at ur own risk.

whats a safe boost pressure that shouldnt bother the hg? , since studs arent in the budget right now because I need a clutch soon.
