Should I buy back my old 12v?

hehe hey guys! The guy I sold my 1-ton to put in a new motor and new southbend. He'll sell it back to me for $5,000. Which is cheaaaaap around here. The only gay thing is, he put MY 215pump sticks into it, but it has a 180pump on it. He said for an extra grand he'll sell me my 215 pump and ebay turbo I had on my old truck back to me.

I'm thinking I'll buy it back, do an hx40, 4"dp/exhaust, sticks and call it a day

What do you guys think?

Matt

I think thats some hardcore ratial inuendo right there?

But come on man, you cant ask a question with a question. You dont think I should get Big Red back?

tltruckparts 06-04-2010 11:12 AM

with how many problems you had with it i would just say move on. if you want another get a good clean start with a different truck

85_305 06-04-2010 11:27 AM

But the problems were from the POS motor running dry from oil a few times and having a very very leaky fron cover. This has a whole new motor with an upgraded clutch. Theres nothing else that could possibly go wrong except blowing the trans or rear diff or something.

ArizonaRedneck 06-04-2010 11:33 AM

what kinda shape is it in and is it worth to you that is what counts and look at it like you didnt know nothing about it before and then decide if that is what you want :humm:

Hell yes I want it back. the motor has been fixed and the clutch is a brand new southbend.. f ya :rocking:

But good advice. thats how I'm handling it; like I've never owned it. I'm gonna check the oil, test drive it, rag on it, etc before I buy it. But for 5g hell yes it's worth it. It was a great truck.

Hammer 06-04-2010 05:26 PM

Stick to the gasser pig you bought.it fits you better.

Red_Rattler 06-04-2010 05:39 PM

I thought the pic summed up everything very well? Guess it was over your head like maintaining a busted truck was to you. I don't understand it havin a new motor is a big deal since you have the tendency to run things out of oil anyways. Blame it on the "very" leaky cover but that's where the whole responcabilty of owning a vehicle that has "issues" to take care of it the best you can until you can afford to fix it. Not to hard to pull the dipstick (called that for a reason I'm guessing) in the morning and notice it needs a gallon of oil... I'm also not "boy" to anyone, I treat others with respect and deserve and ask for the same in return. All I've done was try to help you and it seems to fall on deaf ears and I don't even know what to say anymore.

I thought I already took fault for not topping the oil off before driving to the shop to have the oil leak fixed? Guess you missed that. Last I looked everybody makes mistakes.

I dont recall disrespecting you ever? Infact, I dont recall disrespecting anybody on this board. Does this insult you too?:moon:

Red_Rattler 06-04-2010 07:05 PM

Oh no I read it in oh about 8 threads on the same topic u started, couldn't miss them since they dominated the 12v section...

85_305 06-04-2010 07:10 PM

You read me disrespecting you in 8 other threads? Methinks you<interpretation

I'm not a very offenseful person.

12valvetater 06-04-2010 07:19 PM

If you buy it back I'll take that 180 pump off your hands. Hows 300 greenies?

85_305 06-04-2010 07:36 PM

Oh ya why's this?

getting into some high rpm sled pulling are we?:tu:

kazairl 06-04-2010 09:51 PM

Judging from your other threads I would advise you go buy a new truck and take it to the dealer for all the work it needs done.

tiremann9669 06-04-2010 10:00 PM

If you can afford a Hummer,Land Rover,Jaguar, etc, etc, What do you want with an old 97 Cummins? Why not buy a new one ?:humm:

HAYMAFIA 06-04-2010 10:00 PM

ya. with all due respect keep driving your gas vehicles. diesels require more maintenance than some may like to do.

tltruckparts 06-05-2010 12:11 AM

agreed with everyone else. stick to the gassers:td:

and im glad you can afford all the name brand gassers, i hope that makes you feel better about yourself throwing brands around like that and all

dan33klein 06-05-2010 12:20 AM

@85 305, maby one day yo will be able to own, take care off, and respect the sheer power and excitement of a cummins diesel engine(especially a 12v). untill then roll around in your gassers:tu:

Hammer 06-05-2010 02:18 PM

Seriously, I hope you buy it back, it was good entertainment:pca1:

I'd give you a few bills for that 180hp pump too.

Because I like projects. I've considered a nice 6spd CR, but its so easy and cheap getting power out of a 12v. Besides, I'm truly a redneck at heart.

It's funny everybody here thinks this is my first time owning a diesel? This isn't my first time at the rodeo.

Why would I care about impressing people on an online forum? I was just trying to figure out which one he might have been talking about.

Now here's some real input. Thank you. Good advice. I did mess up by not checking the oil. Had I not done that, I have faith that 99% of my problems wouldn't have been. But the truck did have some nasty blow by even when I first bought it.

Ya they do a little bit; they are considered a CUV though: Crossove Utility Vehicle.

Its kinda like a mini-van, minus the mini-van. If that makes sense:humm:

And with that attitude, when you run it without oil again, no one here will help you. You start talking like that, especially to the people who these trucks inside and out, aren't going to be helping you. These so called a$$hats have helped me so much, and I'm very humble for that. But when we try helping you, you go off like you already knew the answer, you'd fit in perfectly with a few people over on cumminsforum

85_305 06-07-2010 05:26 PM

Did I say EVERYBODY is an a$$hat? No. I'm not here looking for criticism or to be e-fighting anybody. I'm here to learn. But when a$$hats have to put their cocky, annoying, 2-bit 2cents in, it grows rather annoying.
I'm very appreciative of what I've learned here. I wouldn't have been able to do what I've done to my old 12v without these guys. Ya I blew it up. The fc was leaking like a siv (spraying when driving), and I didn't check the oil once in my life and it blew up. I payed for it too. So i'm not asking for smarta$$ remarks. I'm looking for help and advice.

monster12valve 06-07-2010 06:01 PM

i was just bustin ur balls.. did the truck get a new motor or a rebuilt?

rkadcock 06-07-2010 06:05 PM

You don't need to be calling anyone asshats period! I'm 99.9% sure I know who you are talking about, yes they're cocky as hell, but they are some of the brightest guys on this site and can pretty much diagnose and tell you how to fix your truck without having to see it. And if your here to just annoy them, then why are you here. If you hear to annoy these people, then you're being counter-productive to this whole forum. Yes we'll answer your question about a fuel plate or turbo even if it's been asked in 1000 different threads but when we see something like "I'm staying here to piss off the a$$hats that annoy me" we will let you know how we feel. If you treat people with that attitude, why would you not expect to be treated the same way?

Yes we all make mistakes and do something stupid that will follow us around for a long time, but you start calling out people just to annoy them, why would we want to help you out then or let you forget about that stupid mistake? I've lost some so close "friends" over them running their mouths over how I don't know what I'm doing blah blah then when their vehicle goes down, who are they calling and they expect me to help them after they were out there calling me this and that?

Didn't know that. It's hard to detect goofing around online :) The motor is actually a '94 (i believe) with 220k miles.. but he says there are no leaks, no blowby, starts up fine, 40-50psi of oil, and idles fine. No hazing at idle either. But still.. I'll be darned if you can find a used motor for less than 2g (which is what he said he payed), plus the $1,000 southbend.

Do you not see the crticism in this thread towards me? Thats not needed either.

monster12valve 06-07-2010 06:23 PM
