It regulates boost by an allen head like 94 12valve said. Screw it out to allow more boost, screw it in to regulate more boost.

screw it in it makes more boost screw it out makes less when you screw it in it shows less boost at the wastegate so the wastegate will open later

But doing that won I be essentially tuning the engine down?:humm:

no you will be upping the boost psi

Delray2009 06-03-2010 09:56 PM

I need to lower it tho, I already boost to 38psi, which as I understand is too much. What exactly does the westgate do?

94 12valve 06-03-2010 10:08 PM

vents extra drive pressure from the exhaust manifold

Thanks for that correction :tttt:

Screwing it inwards creates more boost which = more power.

Yes thats too much. Take it to abotu 32-35psi. The WG vents excess boost outta the exhaust.

as long as your wastegate line off of the afc is stock the only way to regulate the boost is too control the power of the fueling. If there is a plug or some other device in the wastegate line though, that is what is making your boost get out of hand. These are mechanical boost foolers and makes the turbo think it doesn't need to wastegate as early.

the wastegate is set at the factory to open at a set amout of boost, i've been told its like 17-25psi, the line that the boost elbow goes on carries boost pressure from the intercooler lines to the wastegate, when the pressure in the intercooler goes over what the wastegate is set for it opens and bleeds off extra boost, by putting the elbow in you can regulate how much boost gets to the wastegate, this means that there can be like 32-35psi in the intercooler but because the boost elbow is "pinching" off the supply only 17-25psi is getting to the wastegate

it sound like there was a bit of confusion as to the function of everything, hope all that is right and makes sense

thanks for the better explanation thats what I meant by mechanical boost fooler, I tried not to get to into detail to prevent being too lengthy

ya i like talking about it face to face better, hard to type all that one handed with a baby in the other lol
