any reason i can't have a 6spd?

Its not that I don't like the five spd its that i just run out of gear at 75. I also would like to just have a new tranny. If there's a reason i can't please fill me in.

There is no point the 5spd is stronger and has more parts available. Plus they both have the same overdrive ratio. If you want a better road gear swap a set of 3.55s in.

You can have a 6spd, but, you'll probably run out of gears sooner. The 6spd is designed for towing, the 5spd is better for a daily driver. My suggestion would be to change your gears in the rear end.

Do you have a GSK?

12valvetater 02-14-2010 10:29 PM

Gsk don't matter if he's running out of gear like me. You can rev it to the moon doesn't mean youll have a good road gear. My truck has 4.10s and 33s and I tach 3500 at 95ish.

justinb12 02-14-2010 10:38 PM

no on the gsk. Thats when i get of this F#$%ing snowy ass drilling rig. PA isn't for this Texan in the winter time. I want the 4k but i'm not sure if i have the bucks for the springs and retainers

Plus they both have the same overdrive ratio.
That is an incorrect statement....
Here are the gear ratios for each transmission....

NV4500......
Gear Ratio
1st 5.61
2nd 3.04
3rd 1.67
4th 1.00
5th 0.75
R 5.61*

The NV4500's were rated for 450 ft lbs of torque from the factory.

NV5600......
Gear Ratio
1st 5.63
2nd 3.38
3rd 2.04
4th 1.39
5th 1.00
6th 0.73
R 5.63

The NV5600's had two different versions, one for our Rams which was rated for 550 ft lbs of torque and a HD version for the larger trucks which was rated for 650 ft lbs of torque.

For the cost associated with doing this and the parts for the 5600's getting scarce I would say change the gears and rid yourself of the 4.10's and go to 3.54's.Your other option is to go to a taller tire,33" or 35", which would be a great fit for the 4.10 gears.

justinb12 02-14-2010 10:46 PM

Anyway of being certain that i have the 4.10's

dieseldocter16 02-14-2010 11:37 PM

I dont know why people bash the 6 speed for daily drivin. I love mine. However at 65 in 6th i'm tachin 2 grand w/ 4.10's. And an answer to your question, changing out a 5 speed for a 6 speed is an easy swap, however I would recomend going w/ a G56 rather then a NV5600. :tu:

Ian I know Matt put the g56 in his cr and he loves it but I'm still not sold on it I've seen way to many explode. The 5600 is a great tranny for a lower powered tow rig but it can't handle what I've seen countles 5spds handle. The 4500 though does need a big input and 5th gear fixed. My truck is still sitting from that little nut walking off the shaft. That was even the updated nut.
