when you pull your intake tube off, and you see your impeller wheel, its the steel ring that surrounds that. it is held in by a snap ring. it is slightly curved into the impeller wheel to smooth out airflow and reduce noise.

i would guess that its spinning fast enough to be a high enough pitch that you just cant hear it over the truck itself. when i get into higher rpms my turbo gets to where you cant hardly hear it. the open turbo is just till i get new one. when i get something nice i will put a filter on it. just trying to enjoy it while running the stocker, besides a few guys down here are running open turbos and still doing fine. so far i have 20,000 miles on the open turbo and no problems with end play or bearing wear...

just a bunch of dust and dirt in your engine oil, right?nothing to be worried about, turbos OK!:argh:
|
even at idle and low rpm i cant hear the turbo at all when the ring is out

PUT A BOOST GUAGE ON IT !
