TST power kit has anyone tried

TST power kit has anyone tried it sounds like its just what i need they say with stock exhust and air filter 230+hp 605 lbs $200 at rear wheels what can you do to get these rusults

Dr. Evil 12-15-2008 10:25 AM

A Pyrometer and boost gauge are a must here. Do you have them?

Also, what transmission do you have? if its an auto you will likely damage it without an upgraded torque converter and valve body.

jamiewarner64 12-15-2008 10:42 AM

I called TST they said you dont need gauges ,Thats one of the reasons i liked it ,work is slow this winter and arent gauges $300 might wait a while dont want to ruin my truck

Dr. Evil 12-15-2008 10:45 AM

Do NOT believe that for one second - you are dramatically increasing fuel here, and more than doubling hp. As I said before, at the very minimum, you will need a Pyrometer and a boost guage.

jamiewarner64 12-15-2008 11:24 AM

are you saying you dont believe there hp and torque claims ,trucks warming up now idles at 400 to 500 in nutral no air on

Dr. Evil 12-15-2008 11:46 AM

Their hp and torque is probably right on the money but you need a pyromoter or you will risk melting pistons. Im trying to educate you here.

Im not sure why you are telling me what your idle is...I asked what transmission you have. BTW, the idle is too low...should be at 800 rpm in park/neutral.

Thank you for your help do you think this is the way to go i just tow quads 2500lbs might get a cabover im not a leadfoot ive been low 10s on bikes and cars i just want to get to the trail and get back,There are a couple of hills on the way to moab that are 1200ft she wont pull much over 65mph just taking it easy on her

You need to take a second and read what Doc is trying to get into your head-

You need a pyrometer (EGT) gauge and a boost gauge before you put this kit in. This kit adds fuel, fuel makes heat and heat melts things. Go get gauges before you do anything.

This kit is pretty decent and makes good power. Check our site sponsors first before you order. They should be able to get you what you need.

If the truck is stock I'd look into an air filter set up of some sort and open up the exhaust. You can also replace the governor springs and get some more RPMs out of the motor. I'd recommend the 3K springs for what you're doing.

ill tell you right now as a tst power kit owner .. you NEEED gauges .. with just thiere #8 plate in the stock position and a 5inch exhaust i could easily peg 1500 degrees which is where you dont want to be for a long time. and imo theres no point in keeping the stock exhaust because its too restrictive.. just change it in its entirety not the cat-back b/s and that includes getting rid of the stock exhaust elbow.

Right on the money with the gauges. I had the TST #10 kit in my truck. Really nice mild upgrade on my 215-pumped motor. While there are other ways to get the same/better performance, it all depends on what you want/need the truck to do. Are you looking for just a few more hp? You could slide your plate forward, get a boost elbow, and last but not least, GAUGES!!! What people are telling you here isn't just for the sake of trying to sell you a product. They are saving you from potentially burning your engine up. Do you want to spend $300 now and an afternoon installing them, or $2k+ on a new engine that still has the stock power? Me, I'd get gauges.

That said, if all you're looking for is a little bit more power to tow your quads up the hills, get some gauges first (the horse is dead, no?), slide your fuel plate forward, get some 3k governor springs, an aftermarket intake/exhaust and a boost elbow. That can be as simple as a $50 BHAF air filter, $90 4" downpipe with an elbow (under the passenger door gets loud and annoying, in my opinion). The springs themselves would be a huge improvement, as the stock springs start cutting the fuel back around 2300 RPMs.

If simplicity, and an all-in-one package is what you're looking for, the "power pack" (regardless of which manufacturer/vendor you buy from) is hard to beat. You will notice a huge improvement if you add the governor springs to the package.

THank you everybody you all have been super helpful ,Im buying gauges first then the kit and 3k spring .One thing is the bahf pretty close to the $300 cold air intake? And seams like it has a govener 2300 rpms

jasonw 12-15-2008 09:34 PM

The BHAF is a lot different than a cold air intake. Without a heat shield, the filter basically sucks hot air from the turbine housing, as it sits pretty close to it. The cold air kits generally have an enclosed box where the filter sits, and suck cooler air in from the front of the vehicle. The BHAF is an improvement over the 6"x6" (est. measurements) square filter, but I don't think it holds a candle to a true cold air system. I run a BHAF on my truck, simply for the fact of more filter area, availability locally and no cleaning. Personal choice, though.

As for the GSK, some trucks seem to govern at 2300 (mine), while I have rode in some that seem to start cutting the fuel back somewhere around 2500. The 3k springs will make the truck come alive. You will notice the benefits of the power pack greatly with governor springs.

Depending on where you buy your stuff from, check and see if they have the KDP kit available. You might be able to save on shipping. It's almost as important as gauges, if yours hasn't been done yet.

that KDPkit a friend of mine that has a 12 valve with650,000 and pulls a 3 car trailer loaded on a regular basis asked me how many miles were on my truck i said 155,000 he said dont worry about it would have come out by now, what do u think of that , thanks and how much is it to get some one to do that for me.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

on my post i missed a 0 i ment 12.000 to 13.000 ft hills

stkdram55 12-16-2008 06:51 PM

there is really no exact sciencet to when the KDP will come out, it could come out at 50k or 1 million miles

It is a 50/50 that it will come out. Mine had a 150,000 on it and the timing housing and kdp were all lose. I had to retourque everything.
