air conditioner isnt very cold
so i went on a small family trip in the dodge yesterday. the air did great until the outside temp got over 80 and then it was like it couldnt keep up. any ideas on this issue i have looked at the common things and have come up empty:humm:

What are the high and low side pressures?
|
ok well i dont have guages to check, so i had a local shop charge it and it didnt change a thing

If your airflow is a little low as well it sounds like a recirculating door that broke. It's a common problem and easy to fix if you are mechanically inclined.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Also you may want to have the shop that recharged your ac to check pressure. There's a possibility that the compressor is going bad. But like I said if it feels like you have less flow on full then it's most likely that recirc door |
Does the compressor clutch engage?
|
Your a little low on freon. If your drivers side is cold and your pass side is not as cold put a shot of freon in it! These systems suck due to low air flow in traffic or city driving the condensor gets to hot causing a over pressure which makes the relief purge.
I put a slim line fan on the condensor to cool it down seemed to help the problem! |
Could also be a stopped up orifice tube

With out knowing the pressures you are kinda shooting in the dark, I would get a guage set they will pay for them selves fast.

ok thanks guy for the ideas, now that im home for the weekend i can look into these problem areas, how and where can i locate the recirculation door? im assuming its behind the glove box...

I'd guess a simple AC recharge!
|
Also If your pulling a load or accelerating your ac might kick off.

Sorry not trying to high jack this thread but I did a search and this thread came up and maybe it will help all of us.
Im having the same issue. sometimes I turn the blower switch off then turn it back on. it starts blowing cold again but usually after a few minutes it starts blowing warm again. Could this be that door issue. and also one of the condensor lines will get so hot it will burn you, is this right. Im trying to wire up a auxillary fan to see if it will help. having problems with wiring it up. anyone have a diagram with the factory wiring colors? |
