shuting down?

I have an 03 stock truck, a couple of weeks ago it started loosing power when pulling up hills. I have changed fuel filter and now it seems like it looses more power than before, and it totally shut down tonight at a red light. After finally getting it started back it sit there and was ideling up and down by its self, just like you were pressing fuel peddal half way down then leting off again, this went on for min. or so and then went back to loosing power on hills again. Any ideas?

Sounds like the lift pump is going out.

thanks i think so to now, because I took fuel filter back out today and lift pump wouldnt fill filter bowl with fuel.

Up to you, but you can either replace the stock one with a stock one, an aftermarket with filters, or tie into the main fuel line with just a pump.

fuel pumps

It seems odd to me that Dodge took so long (1998.5- 2007) to get a trouble free fuel pump. I just replaced my pump with a Fass at 49k miles but wasn't having problems yet just worried. Also the consensus seems to be that better fuel filtration is needed too.

do you have to remove pump in tank to use the inline pump?

changing lift pumps

My 2004.5 had the old style pump on the firewall so they just bypassed it with the Fass on the frame rail by the tank. It is my understanding that those later CR motors with the in tank pumps switch to straws that draw the gas out and replace the in tank pumps. I'm sure that those folks will chime in because it's a common up grade for both types.

i had to have mine done at 147k and the pump bit the bullet. They did take the pump out and put in the draw straw. It has not been a happy ride after I had it done. Mine is now experiencing the same thing as your truck sawman. I lose almost all my power when going up hill, and it shuts down atleast once a day. Today it did it to me pulling into the school parking lot to drop off the kiddos. That was not fun!
