Fuel Pressure Need Help

06 mega with smarty ,5'' exhaust and k-n filter smarty is on 5 and I also have a quadzilla monitor a short time ago like 2 months it would pull 34-38 fuel pressure today only 26 ps I also have boost fooler truck only has 7,000 mile's what is wrong or is this a winter thing :sos::sos::sos:

Change your Fuel filter and see if it goes back up.

dodgethat 01-13-2008 05:13 PM

sorry I put a new one in less than 1500 mile's also I can feel the truck fall on it face when it runs out of fuel..

Diesel Dawgs Performance 01-13-2008 05:15 PM

Are you using the Quad Commander?

dodgethat 01-13-2008 05:22 PM

no just monitor with fuel, egt and tran temp

TEXASPOWER 01-13-2008 07:17 PM

smarty shouldnt drian it enough to fall on its face maybe u got some bad fuel id check the fuel filter again, and put an new one on it

Ummmm....am I the only one who actually read that he said he had 34-38 PSI and now it's only 26 PSI? You must have something hooked up wrong. Your stock pump in the tank is only good for 9 PSI on a good day and under WOT maybe 3-4 and with a fueling module or programmer 0 at WOT. So, you could call Quad and see what's going on but if I were to bet you have the rail fuel pressure plugged into the lift pump fuel pressure on the Quad or vice versa or just not wired properly at all. If you have a Walbro or other high performance pump on there with no regulator and really do have that kind of supply pressure then I want to know about your system because it could be a breakthrough in the diesel world.

Ya......26psi is still way to high

what ya got for fuel delivery system there to get those kinna pressures

if the truck falls on its face then yer starvin it for fuel in the delivery system

OR yer PSV is popping off and starvin the injectors

dodgethat 01-14-2008 01:39 PM

those numbers are from the monitor truck has been running for 6-8 mths with these mod no other changes have happened

Where is the sending unit located that runs your Fuel pressure. Is it on the CP3 injection pump or on the fuel rail? If it is on the CP3 injection pump, which line, the upper one or lower one? Just trying to verify the install here. That will tell us where you are tapping into.

krazykiller 01-14-2008 04:29 PM

on my 06 with the commander at idle is at 6psi going down the road is 5-6psi then wot 0psi
which suck because i have a smarty also and i cant even play with it.

dodgethat 01-14-2008 04:30 PM

fuel rail I belive it is electronic if that matters

madmanwithmouse 01-15-2008 08:07 AM

theres a setting in the commander that would make it think you have 26psi when its relly 0-1. unless you have a aftermarket lift pump, go through the commander settings and make sure its on the 0-40 not the 0-100 in the fuel sender settings. on mine i was playing with the settings and at idle it was 7-8ish then when i put it on the 100psi setting it was 30ish.

Ya need to look into this bad

it dont take much bombin at all with a chip or programer and the fuel pressure will be zero or close to it ..............not good

Fishin2Deep4U 01-15-2008 02:27 PM

Yes, you need to be sure you are set vto the corrent pressure range. I would also verify the readings with another gauge.

I can't beleive how many AirDogs we are shipping right now to fix this very complaint..

With pressures like that something is really wrong. New trucks should only see 4 to 9 (11 if you have a big pump behind it like a FASS or AD). Something is up for sure.

Anyway, hook up your FP gauge to the inlet side of the CP3 injection pump and you should be good to go. The filters should be checked just to be sure and so on but sounds to me like there is nothing but air in the line to be honest.

dodgethat 01-16-2008 02:10 PM

I must have been wronge on the pressure it must have only been 26-25 that is rail pressure I hope it is only bad fuel or filter

Wyatt Earp 01-16-2008 02:29 PM

I don't know what your gauge says and where it is hooked up but rail pressure on a stock truck would be somewhere around 25,000 psi. With pressure boxes and other programmers you can push it a bit higgher to safely around 28,000 psi if i remember correct. Anything above that and something is up, is wearing out prematurely or is damaged somewhere.

Check the lift pump in your tank for functionability and then check that pressure. After that change the fuel filter(s) and then get the truck scanned to determine cause of high(er) rail pressure.
