My truck with hard calculation is 20.09mpg yet the trip meter reports 21.9. Hope this info helps

Thats not too shabby at all. Anyone ever try the fitch fuel catalist? It got a great review on the powerblock a while back.

Have you upgraded your tranny cooler? When I had my f150, I installed a rv tranny cooler and a electric pusher fan that really pushed some air. I wasnt running any guages so IDK exact temp numbers but the tranny seemed to like me more after long drives while hauling.

Just makeing it easier for your truck to breathe is the main thing. Better flowing and colder intake air and cooler less restricted exhaust are the main things. I just put a cfm+ intake elbow on my rig and that alone made a noticeable difference. When time and money permits a good enclosed cold air kit, intercooler, exhaust, better fuel filters, and whatever else I see thats shiny. jk on the last one.

I was just curious to see what products were actually doing what they claim for our trucks. Its always good to ask around and do your homework before dropping a wad of cash on something.

Best I can get is about 19mpg if I follow the speed limts. But I have 35's and I keep the Smarty TNT up around SW7 all the time.

Keep it stock and do a air flow up grade to the engen. That way your truck will live a longe life. Do not use a K&M air filter they let in to much fine dust. One thing you should do is a EGT and a boost gauges The EGT will keep you from getting it to hot when in a hard or longe pull 1350 is all you went it to get. SW IN == good luck ==:tu:

Bigred7.3 08-18-2011 09:47 PM

i get 17.3 mpg avg between city and highway, if i drive only city its about 16.8mpg highway only is round 18.5, last weekend i pulled the 40ft gooseneck with a sameri and 2 atvs at 70mph and was getting 14mpg, my truck is completly stock.

dylan.b 08-19-2011 09:34 AM

the best iv gotten when my truck was completely stock was around 15 empty and 12 if im lucky when loaded but that was when it only had 40,000 miles on it..... i put a bullydog triple dog gt on it and straight piped it and now its gettin around 21-22mpg which is good for a dually i guess

frosty4227 08-19-2011 11:32 PM

from my guestimated mileage, my odometer gears broke, i am getting 17mpg with locked 4.10 gears, 37" tires, stock 727 and a race built 12mm ve.

roaddog51 08-21-2011 09:14 AM

what size rear gears do you have??

frosty4227 08-23-2011 04:02 PM

okay i did the calculation using my gps, i got 17.88 mpg and i did a lot of hot rodding around seeing as i just put the 4.10 gears in. thats on a stock(dubbed the high stall) torque converter with a non o/d trans. id say thats pretty good. suprised me at least

muddinfreak89 08-24-2011 07:50 AM

The biggest gains in mileage that I saw was when I installed the free spin kit and a cam from Greg Hogue I'm heavy on the foot and I'm seeing 22-25 the old lady gets somewhere around thirty she says...

akhappyjack 08-27-2011 08:26 PM

mileage

06 3500 diablo programer other than that stock 26.7 mpg highway, towing a 27ft 5th wheel about 9500lbs and depending on how hilly it gets and if i have to slow down for the prius's 12 to 15 mpg( i don't like picking them out of the grill)

Sorry, late to the party as usual.

I've been looking at the Dodge Mega Cab 4x4 diesel, and have been kind of wondering what it might do in the fuel economy dept. with a lift and tires.
Some of you have given me some idea. Thank you:)
Then again, I'm not really looking at it for economy (I've got an econo-box for that:) ).

Thanks for all the good info here.

:nope:
And I'm sorry you feel that way.
And NO, you can't, and NO, it DOESN'T.
If you beleive it does, then you're the one in a fantasy land.

What serving your country does do, whether you're "shot at" or not, is give your the "right" to be PROUD!:rocking:
It also comes with a boatload of bene's that we could discuss in another thread.
Other than that, it comes with no other "special privileges."
Remember, there's no draft. We all volunteered:tu:

As for the forum, this is a privately held entity. Quite frankly, "freedoms" only exist here because the ownership and moderators allow them to.
I've been on some that were so pussified, that saying "pussified" :ha:
would get you time off:w2:
This place is a piece of cake, just follow the rules.

Got out after I couldn't run anymore. Damn knees.
Sorry about your knees.
Mine remind me of all the abuse Uncle Sam's Confused Group "allowed" me to give them over the years, along with other damages I've done on my own (lol).)

Hope you get them taken care of.

Amen!
You don't even have to "go to war" to get shot at on a regular basis :D

Thinking like that is not generally good for longevity, and that's anywhere in life, not just forums.

Im not sure which rear end my truck has. The stealership said they think it has 3.73's with a limited slip diff. But they lied a lot so who really knows.
Easy way to tell.
Jack up the rear and mark the rim if it's standard size (not the tire) or the center hub, and the driveshaft to carrier housing.

Note how many times the driveshaft rotates when the rim/hub has made one revolution.
If it's gone around a little over three (3) times, you've looking at a 3.73.
follow the rotations and know what R & P's are available for your rig, and you'll know for sure what you have:c:

Hope that helps a little.

Im runnin' 35's right now but I havent really had a chance to do much driving. The fuel economy numbers were when I had the 33's on it. I need to do actually fuel economy instead of trusting the trip computer
True, but remember, you're odometer reading is going to be off as well. That will effect your calculations.
You'll have to compensate for the error.

My dad's truck hand calc'd 24.9 mpg coming back from Missouri a few weeks ago. 2008 quad cab short bed with s&b intake and smart jr. with dpf delete and boost fooler

frosty4227 11-30-2011 07:55 PM

i got a calculated 24mpg (with a leaky ve, parts on their way to get it fixed) on my last tank, 1500 stall full race converter, reverse pattern manual vb, ve with no idle or lever stop screw and the full power screw set to its lowest setting so it still has good oil pressure. fuel pin, star wheel all the way down, intercooled afc spring, smoke screw 4.5 turns down. gov spring, 4,10 gears locked front and rear, 37" tires, custom exhaust/intake,

03Powerstroke 11-30-2011 08:16 PM

THICKCOAL89 07-05-2012 02:00 PM

I average right at 22-24 on highway city 18-21 that's with programmer on with it turned off I loose 2mpg
:td:

JayP 07-05-2012 10:22 PM

my 04 3500 6spd with the chip on the economy setting and driving it like a 90 year old woman i got up to about 25mpg, but on an average day usually about 23

minncountryboy 07-10-2012 02:42 AM

I must have the worst fuel milage out of everybody then holy s*** my worst so far empty was like 14 doin 75-85 and the best has been around 16-17 doin like 70 with a gutted air intake, and muffler delete pipe.. hmm taking the cat off sounds better and better...

MickeyThompsonThirtyFives 08-05-2012 07:47 PM

Lift it like many of us have and worry about the mpg later :c:

RanchhandTCR 08-05-2012 08:04 PM

My 98 gets about 18 mpg with all the ranch driving andn highway, when I make a trip I get around 21 MPG, and last Time I towed I got 13MPG with 10K My mods are in my signature. The only time I got below 10mpg was when I had my truck run at High Idle for 3 hours... Went and chased cows and didnt expect it to tack so long. I also dont go past 65 when Im tryin to get good milage, because I did that on on I25 from gallup to albaqurque and it tanked to proably 16 mpg.

ProjectCummins740 08-05-2012 08:28 PM

24 mpg @ 60 mph for 185 miles

KingCopa 08-06-2012 03:54 PM

Just got back yesterday from a weeks trip to Greer, pulled my toyhauler which is about 8k lbs from Phoenix to Greer going from about 1000 ft to 9100 elevation and got 11.3 mpg hand calculated for the 630 mile round trip. Oh and I averaged around 65 mph.

im35alive 08-21-2012 09:40 PM

15 MPG while pulling a small trailer about 5k LBS on the highway. I was quite impressed with that so i had to calculate it twice. Thats using the Edge Evo HT on the economy setting. Straight pipe and more air helped too

Red Cummins 10-02-2012 12:26 PM

2006 2500 Megacab 4wd 6 speed manual. 285-70-R17, leveled, S&B Intake, 4" MBRP Exhaust.
I generally get around 16 mpg doing my general everyday mixed driving. I've gotten just under 18 mpg on a road trip. I think this is not bad but also not great. Everybody always wants the 20+ numbers. My Lie Meter always says I'm getting around 20-22. Wish they made that a little more accurate.

jasonfromcali 10-02-2012 05:54 PM

Just under 18 mpg on everyday driving.

Ruger12ga 10-02-2012 06:59 PM

Before i lifted mine a got 22 highway/ or around town, but cruisin at around 50 for a few days i had it up to 25-26 witht the adrenaline on eco, now with the 37's i can only get 17 out of it

Gerry R 10-02-2012 11:45 PM

We just got back from a 4,000 mile trip to Idaho, Montana and Utah pulling a 8k bumper pull toy hauler mostly @ 65mph and averaged 9.85 for the whole trip. I have no idea how so many are pulling 12-15k 5ers 65-70 and getting 12-15 mpg and empty 18-25+ at 70+ but in my real world that's what I got all hand calculated.

mgtexas 10-07-2012 02:14 PM

I'm with you Gerry, I wish I could get those numbers too. I pull 10-12k often and get about 12mpg, depending on the route and wind. when I pull really heavy, 18-23k, I get 8-9mpg. My best highway cruise has been 19 mpg, no load, on 10 in southern LA. I think I would do better with a manual. Had one in an old 2002 and it routinely got about 20 mpg.

Mike

Mega Cummins 10-08-2012 02:19 PM

07 5.9 6 speed with 37's I've gotten 20

banshee99ca 10-08-2012 11:24 PM

24-26 mpg, Magnaflow pipe, Bullydog PMT module in tow mode, Volant air box. pretty much doing 60 -70 mph on highway and speed limit in town. But then put on 185-17-70 tires and lost 2 mpg, thought it would improve mpg, not decrease it. 3 speed auto 3500 heavy duty 2005 model.

Diesel Addict101 11-01-2012 11:41 PM

For some reason my truck is getting great mileage generally im pretty light on the foot in the city but i get between 18 and 16 in the city average (without a heavy foot). On the highway on the other hand ive already seen it at 26 at one point 28 not for long of course but especially after I installed a new air filter this is bone stock mind you.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Hell I cant wait to see what she's pushing after I get the cold air intake, 4" straight pipe, and smarty have to say im pleased with the efficiency.

steved 11-02-2012 07:54 AM

If you are looking at the overhead readout, its only there to make you feel good...its less than accurate and is only eye candy. I know of one programmer that made that readout appear that you were getting 30mpg or better, but hand calculated it was about half that. Dodge could have better spent the $$ they put into the overhead into something that really mattered...

As far as mileage, hand calculated; I averaged about 18mpg, highway was 21mpg, city was about 16mpg, and towing depended on weight. I kept mileage records for every tank of fuel and sold the first truck with 200k, and the last truck (the one in my signature) with 270k...so I had a good trend going. The 99 auto 3.55s definitely was better on fuel, but it definitely wasn't as fun as the 04.5.

The absolute best mileage I ever got (hand calc'd) with the 2004.5 was two back to back tanks at 26mpg, but that was driving across North Dakota with about a 50mph tail wind.

retread225j 12-01-2012 08:26 AM

22.69 on 4500 mile trip this summer. 19-20 back and forth to work.

MrSandman818 03-03-2014 05:10 PM

heading to california with a campershell, tool box full, camping supplies, and lots of beer. I got 19mpg hand calculated between el paso and phoenix. I was going between 70-85mph the whole way. My truck is just under 8,000lbs on the scales.

This was with my smarty on level 9 and my banks bullet turned off.
