48re to 6 speed
my friend has an 07 2500 with an auto and is sick of trans problems and we can get our hands on a 6 speed out of an 08 6.7. he was wondering if the bell housings are the same but i cant find anything online.
thanks |
He could have a very well BUILT auto for probably less than what he'll have in the conversion...

Dont think the bellhousings would be any different but from what ive seen around it isnt going to be cheep because of the computer, I beleve suncoast?? was/is working on a conversion for it and it was going to be aroun 9k with the trans. Also there isnt the aftermarket parts for them like the 48re which can be built to handle much more power for around 4k from goerend :rocking:

Its really easy I did the swap search it it is on this forum

The total cost is going to depend on what you spend for all your parts. If you can get them reasonable then it will not cost too much. If you pay full retail and then have to have all the work hired done then it might be cheaper to just have your auto 'built' for a lot of power. You just have to decide which way you want to go.
Supposedly the Common Rail 5.9L and the 6.7L have the same block and bolt patterns. I would want to know for sure before I started it though. |
i'm having the same problems with my 07 megacab would like to go to manual. also i've been told you could get your computer reprogrammed for the manual tranny.

the computer end of it can all be solved by GOS diesel for 100 bucks and a 15 min download and the truck will run without the flash i ran mine for a year without the flash only thing i had to do was push button start, i did my whole stick swap for 3400 bucks and thats with a dd clutch and all new hydros i strongly recomend that if you want stick do it i will never own a auto diesel again :jump:

I test drove a 6 speed, I bought mine with an auto transmission.

Is the original poster wanting a 6spd auto or a g56/nv5600 swap? been talking to suncoast about a 68rfe swap and I am looking at 7500 for there new comp 68rfe with tiptronic control behind my 5.9. :rocking:

I say he was wanting to go to a G56 (The NV5600 stopped in '05).
Another possibility for the computer is to just change out OEM ECM's. All the manual ECM would have to have programmed in it is the 'new' vehicles VIN. I wish I could remember which ECM I preferred (And that was just because the only visible difference was in the crisp-ness of how it controlled the engine. I just don't remember which one I liked best . . . ) I think it was the auto ECM that is quicker in it's engine controlling. What are the differences or reasons to switch them anyway? |
If his friend has a smarty Bob will send a update via Email that will fix all the problems swapping from a auto to manual. Its easier than trying to swap harnesses and computers. the update also turns off the auto portion and gear selection on the dash :c:
