Hey madmanwithmouse.

Have you looked at the GDP 2-micron filtration setup? While it does not have a water separator, it is a nice fuel filter system. Richard has installation information on his site.

I installed this system on my truck, also got the big line kit when I got the 2-micron filter. It is doing it's job, I have had NO problems with injectors. Goes in-line between the stock fuel filter canister and the cp3.

Just another option. I do not live where there is a lot of moisture in the fuel, in fact have never gotten water when draining off the stock canister. I like being able to catch the 7-micron particles with the stock canister and then all that remains are the smaller particles for the 2-micron filter.

ya I found the http://www.glacierdieselpower.com setup, but I didnt see the specs, thanks. I wonder how it would work with a say 10micron before the pump, then a 1-2micron filther after it. Also theres not alot if moisture here, but ive had to drain water from a truck once and a few tractors.

The reason you don't see moisture is because of the system's design...

Having the pump UPSTREAM of the filter is bad. As water-laden fuel hits the pump, it is emulsified. The emulsified fuel/water then enters the fuel filter where it simply passes the filter media and heads for the engine.

I ran a little experiment with my Aux tank that proved that (I run a similar type pump), I can set it to a circulating system...it was set up as tank-pump-water knockout-filter-tank. A little water turned 6 gallons of diesel into a big yellow foamy mess that passed right through a true water-separating filter (FS1251, advertised like it might be similar to a Racor). After I figured it out, I reversed the lines (tank-water knockout-pump-filter-tank) and caught all but a little bit of that water after a few days...it took about 4 days for the emulsified fuel to finally start to "un" emulsify.

Just a little FYI for those of you thinking you run "dry" fuel.

I caught more water with my FASS on my 2004.5 in the first month I owned it than I ever saw in my 99 in over 200k. The FASS is set up correctly...water separator-pump-filter...it catches water. Now I have my aux tank and knockout...I very rarely see any water in the FASS because I prefilter ALL my fuel before it hits my main tank.

And as an added bonus, I have seen a trend in the ULSD that seems to indicate it might be hygroscopic. Since I have been running it, I'm seeing a lot more water, especially in the winter.

I like living where the humidity is almost always low... Never had any water in my filters - even on my old 12V which didn't have a intank fuel pump.

Umm, the water separator is on the suction side, the particulate is on the pressure side if I'm not mistaken???

I loosened the particulate filter to get a prime, it barfed fuel out all over before I got the filter tightened.

But your lift pump is still between the tank and filter...I wasn't talking 3rd gen in general.
