A/C problems

Last week my A/c in my truck started acting funny. It would blow cold air only on the drivers side of the truck, then after about 20-30 minutes it would start blowing cold on the passenger side (not quite as cold as the drivers side). Didn't make any difference what setting I had it on (dash, floor, combo, recirc, etc.) Anybody have a clue as to why this is happening?

Mine did that before it just needed recharged

Mine did the exact same thing, go to autozone and get a recharge kit, it blows ice box cold again. I believe what happens is that the low pressure in freon, causes a too big of a drop of pressure when it goes form high pressure to low pressure and causes it to create an ice block and you only get air flow through half of it.

Thanks guys... I was wondering if I had a blockage or some kind of valve wasn't working properly.

Do you have dual climate control? (2 slider knobs for hot and cold, passanger and driver)

well i havent tried recharging mine but i will tommorow but mine did the exact same thing again and i was told it was the blower door. i got a quote to get it fixed for 300$!!!! so i just fixed it myself. so i pushed the blower door open and i think it closed again. or maybe your blower motor is going out

Added a can of freon Saturday and seems to have fixed it...I hope.

mine did it before and it was a piece of the flap that opens and closes from wherever your wanting the air to go and the plastic piece that turns the flap in there soon broke after i pulled it out and it worked fine you just wont have the recirculated air

mine did the same thing it only comes out of the drivers side i flip my switch to any location and it comes out of the driver side vents and defrost. i took my fan motor out and there was a piece in that looked like a connector but i still havent fixed it not sure where the piece goes.:argh:

I had the same issues, when you turn it on the drivers side was plenty cool but the passengers side was warm until around 20 minutes later then it would finally get to the same temperature. Turns out it was around 1lb low...all good now

A recharge will generally work else you may have a blend door issue.

Our 05 truck has been blowing colder on the driver's side for years. Years ago the dealer said the condenser was bad and as it was covered under warranty it would only cost $250. We recharged the a/c a few months ago and now it is due again for a recharge.

I have an 04 3500, does anyone know what the the high and low pressures should be?

GWDriver 08-30-2011 11:25 AM

My '03 2500 did a quirky thing coming back from Nashville this summer. A/C had been working just fine on the trip out. Coming back, got around Dallas and the cab heated up a bit. NOT nice as it was loaded with the wife and daughter. A/C acted funny the rest of the way home.

Going out at night now, A/C seems to work fine. Works better on an overcast day too.
Found out that the window tint being a few shades lighter in the front and the windshield being rather large, I got a whole bunch of solar gain when headed into the sun.

Will retint the windows a bit darker and recharge the system just for kicks and grins. We'll see what happens.............
