State Patrol Issues....

:booo: Soooo, long story short got pulled over by a Super Trooper gives me warnings for my lack of front plate and tint on the windshield and windows.... Then he proceeds to dip the tank, no prob never ran OR diesel, then he crawls under the truck to check for the muffler and cat... I have a muff no big deal then he says "no cat I see" so I tell him in 03 they weren't equiped. So he proceeds to take my cell number so he can check for himself and "get back to me on the issue". But there is no issue, the truck NEVER came with a CAT! So I need help finding info on how I can prove this wasn't factory equiped b4 the asshat calls me back and sends me a ticket. :madd:

Thats easy, any local shop that does inspections will be more than happy to show your there MOTOR emissions book . State law requires that law enforcement and inspection personel follow the manual, It consist of every vehicle type in the great USA, and list what values regarding emissions sensors and what componets came on the vehicle. Plain and simple, State law (any state) basiclly reads if it came on it, it should still be on it!

Red_Rattler 08-16-2009 07:06 PM

We don't do inspections in this state, so I dunno where I might find such a book... :humm:

mysterync 08-16-2009 07:09 PM

The DMV man should have one. The information is available through mitchell1 and Alldata as well! Chrysler can also back you up. Did he write you a ticket? If not theres nothing to worry about, he shot himself in the foot by letting you go without a ticket. If he did write you one, Get a written statement from your local dealership stating that your truck's vin indicates that it was not manufactured with converters...He'll turn red and walk out of court with that one!

luv4rotties 08-16-2009 07:09 PM

Dang Jake that trooper was a asshat... what a jerk. :madd:

stkdram55 08-16-2009 07:17 PM

when i got pulled over the guy told me to shut my truck off so he could talk...then proceeded to give me a ticket for speeding never said anything else about the exhaust :D

Gerry 08-16-2009 07:18 PM

hummmm

what a bad officer he was....

he gave you a warning on the plate and tint... then wanted to verify that he was correct before he enforced the Cat. and since he let you go if you did need one he would probably just call and let you know you need one...

I hate all those cop that waste my time with a warning... they are all bad...

I wish they would just write the ticket so when people talk about them they have something to actually complain about...

Red_Rattler 08-16-2009 07:20 PM

Nope, no ticket for the converter "issue" :D Just took my number and told me he'll let me know what he finds out...

stkdram55 08-16-2009 07:22 PM

:benjamin:maybe he just thought you were cute and wanted you number :benjamin:

Red_Rattler 08-16-2009 07:22 PM

Never said he was a bad officer, your puttin words in my mouth there bud! I just want to cover my ass when he says my truck needs a converter is all.

Gerry 08-16-2009 07:31 PM

yea I guess asshat is a term of endearment..

Red_Rattler 08-16-2009 07:36 PM

I call my buddies asshats :c:

Mr. Miyagi 08-16-2009 08:54 PM

Did he call for backup?

Just wondering....cuz let's see here:

1) He took your phone number and will "call you back on the issue". Police have your ID, run your info to confirm all is correct, and 100% of communication is done via mail. They don't call about citations, they mail them.

2) This one is the most alarming, and important here. The officer crawled underneath your truck looking for a muffler/cat delete, which means he turned his back to you and got down into a submissive position without reinforcements present...???...

I'm thinking either:

1. he was hitting on you really bad
2. you're full of shit
3. more than one officer was there
4. you were already handcuffed for something else in the back seat of his car.

:humm:

:tttt:

mysterync 08-16-2009 08:55 PM

This is very common for DMV officers in our area

biged681985 08-16-2009 08:58 PM

im guessing #1 lol

Diesel Dawgs Performance 08-17-2009 11:20 AM

I agree Ed is was #1

I've had the tank dipped while the truck was sittin in a parking lot but the only time I ever had a safety inspection was when the cop directed to the next chicken coupe up the road. He went in and pulled out the creeper and a few tools. He seemed to have somethin in mind he was lookin for but never told me what it was and I drove away with no problems.

dieseldude03 08-17-2009 01:07 PM

Isn't there a sticker on the core support above the radiator, or maybe stuck on the underside of the hood that describes the presence (or lack thereof) of a catalyst? I know my '03 with the H.O. engine didn't come with a CAT (the S.O. motors did), but I'm not going out to look for a sticker right now. It's 95 degrees with 80% humidity out there!:argh: Hurry up fall!:U:

mysterync 08-17-2009 01:10 PM

It's been frickin hot as heck and humid as heck here too!

There supposed to have a label but DMV wont belive the label....

sidekick 08-17-2009 01:23 PM

so when is your date friday night
joking aside has he called you back yet just curious i took the cat and a residnator off my 06 but never had a issue with it

cumminsdad08 08-17-2009 01:24 PM

i got nailed two weeks ago, and my "asshat" made me shut my truck off too. just gave me speeding ticket and did his talk about paying it, that was all never dipped or crawled around, and you can oboviously (?) tell:duh3: i have no muffler or cat. i wouldn't worry about it. i think these guys get bored sometimes

tower_ofpower 08-17-2009 01:55 PM

bored and lonely :lol88: but seriously i think he was just messin with ya... although getting down on the ground to look under the truck is a little bit A-typical... when i think of an officer i think of someone with a moist towlette in his back pocket... not someone that'll get on the ground... in uniform...

94Matt 08-17-2009 03:15 PM

I was always told that if your exhaust or window tint was questionable, that when you pull over shut the engine off and roll down the offending windows. Why push their buttons by leaving it idle? I've talked with a lot of different people about getting pulled over by police, it seems to me that though there are exceptions, they are usually nice unless you are a hardass to them. I know all the cops in this one horse town, but I've been pulled over in cities before and never got a ticket or harassed like that.

mysterync 08-17-2009 03:19 PM

I think its more about the respect and authority thing. Cartman put it right....I'm a cop and You'll respect my authority. They put their pants on the same way we do. When people constantly give these guys a hard time for just doing their job, I'd say it's a little easier to bully the victims of your traffic stop :moon: lol

2001shrtbedcummins 08-17-2009 03:50 PM

Exactly what you said, I have DARK windows by some peoples standards, but light by mine. I also have a stereo that is usually played at volumes above legal levels, and my exhaust is louder than it should be. I shut the engine off, put the keys in the passenger seat, roll down my front windows (only ones that they have limits on here), and turn the radio off (or the the cops song :D). I then proceed to keep my hands visible. I want him/her to be as comfortable as possible. I ended up talking pistols with the last one to pull me over. They're going from 40S&W to 45ACP

Red_Rattler 08-17-2009 04:11 PM

Well.... He just called me back an hour ago and informed me he called Reed Chrysler which is a city away from me and I know the techs there, anywho he told me I NEEDED to have a cat put on the truck ASAP! Soooooo, I call Reed back that instant and asked them the same question and they informed me he called but didn't have the vin for my truck to do a search so the service guy who I know (asshat #2) :D told him they did come with one. (SO and cali trucks did, but mines an HO!) So I gave him my vin and told him my truck was NOT equiped with one he informed me that the part number for the exhaust with cat was blanked out on the computer search. But he told me to call back in an hour so he could do some more in depth searching. :argh:

And yes indeed he crawled under my truck on the driver and passenger side without backup. He even informed me of my exhaust leak that I repaired last month with a new clamp :ok1:

Good choice. I've never been overly impressed with the .40 Short & Weak. Now the 10mm Auto the .40 was parented from is a darned impressive cartridge!

Red_Rattler 08-17-2009 07:16 PM

Thinkin back on the initial stop now, another thing that pissed me off was that he just opened the back door on the passenger side of my truck without permission. He was checkin to see if the rears were factory tint, but who knows what else his motives were to just opening the door and moving some of my stuff to get closer to the rear window of the truck. Is that even legal to do? :humm:

diesel pap 08-17-2009 07:48 PM

state police dont say anything about cat stuff around here.

Hummin Cummins 08-17-2009 11:39 PM

OK I have respect for those who put on a badge and patrol the roads. But this particular HP doesn't he have more important things to do?? Window tinting no front license plate big deal. Go after the drunks :humm:
The only good that is going to come out of this is he is never going to bother looking under a dodge Ram looking for a cat again :U:
