engine cranks too long
does anyone know what the fuel pressure should b for a 2003 dodge cummins stock transfer pump it seems like my truck cranks a little too long before it fires
|
check the rail pressure relief valve they tend to allow fuel pressure to blead off while trying to start the truck.
|
whare would that b

the rail pressure relief valve is right next to the rail pressure sensor if you take the banjo bolt out of the top of the relief valve and install a set screw to plug the return it definitely helped with mine.
|
Do you leave the plug in?

A silly but simple suggestion, had a similar issue noticing my truck took a little longer than my dads truck to start for the last while and I looked into everything, than I replaced my batteries 2days ago and everything is normal now. My truck always started and the batteries were high end 8yr free replacement 900ccAmps so I never considered them, just tried it as a last ditch effort and it worked.

There was a long crank TSB out, I cannot remember what years it was for.
The batteries are a good idea, and so is the rail pressure relief valve. |
Brand new one puts out 8 psi and 70-80 gph. But it's not fuel pressure, it's volume that matters.
|
i will try the relief valve because i just put 2 new batteries in it last week

Here is a link to the thread about capping the relief valve.
