Any difference in the 06/07 motors or tranny on the 5.9L

I'm looking to buy an 06 Ram 2500 with the 5.9. Nice set up and great running truck. I was just wondering if there was a difference with the 07's.

in 07 there were some 5.9's left over and also the new 6.7.......total different animal motor and trans

If you're asking if the 07's with the 5.9 are different from the 06's with the 5.9 the answer is no. The left over 5.9's were put in the early 07's then the 6.7's came out.

Wasn't there a difference in the early '06 engines and the late '06 engines? Possibly a small difference in hp and tq?

wildbill 10-25-2008 08:33 AM

There was a 600 series and a 610 series engine.

What tranny is in the 07 with the 5.9 motor. What type of mods should be done with that.

The 600 motors were in the 04.5's and 610 motors were in the 05-07's, I believe....

I don't believe there were any power differnces but there were some subtle changes....something in the tranny and something that won't allow the '06.5+ to run the TST...

48RE behind all the 5.9's.

TC, VB or shift kit to start. Billet shafts and more pieces depending on how much power you want to put hru it.

Bolt up 6.7 trans to a 5.9

Is it possible to bolt up a Dodge 6.7 trans to a 5.9 engine?
I have heard bad things about the 48RE trans and want a fix.
I will wait until my trans bombs before I do the fix. Don't want to waste the money.
There is a kit to bolt up an Allison to a Cummins. I have bookmarked the page for later use.
Any info would be great

Dear baddogbard- I hope we are not trashing this thread by going off subject but the Chrysler 727 based transmissions ( Which your 48re is - its basically an updated 727 more internals and stronger with an overdrive attached!) can be made to be the strongest of ALL transmissions!!! The aftermarket has jumped on the bandwagon and there is many quality technitions that can turn your stock tranny into the ability to handle any power level you could throw at it. The basic 727 could be made so strong that some of the original top fuel dragsters used modified 727's to run the quarter. By the time you pay for the new allison or 68re and convertor and electronics you would have way more money in your truck and would not be as strong as the same money or less spent on a 48re. All of us try to spend money wisely in this economy and keeping the 48re in my book is the only way to go. And guess what? It already fits in you truck lol!
