Intake Transfer Pump.

Mine is at the dealership with a bad one and it is on national back order. :ouch: :argh: From what the advisor said, it has something to do with building up fuel pressure and feeding it to the engine. Anybody know anything else about em?

sounds more like an in tank transfer pump
pushes fuel from the tank to the high pressure pump.

I don't think that is it. They said the truck could still be driven and it wouldn't break down, I just wouldn't be getting all the fuel it should be getting. Seems if it was that, they would say don't drive or it will screw up the CP3.

You boys got me to thinking about this and I called the advisor back. It is actually some part on the engine that deals with fuel delivery. My in tank pump was fine. If it was that, I'm with you. I would have been ordering an Airdog tonight.

uuummmmm...Mike. The DURAMAX doesnt come with a lift pump and IT has a CP3. :w2:

There is no part on the engine that deals with fuel delivery. The in tank transfer pump sends fuel to the CP3 then the CP3 pressurizes it and sends it the rail where the injectors are. At the end of the rail is a rail pressure relief valve so the rail doesn't get over pressurized. Next, the unused fuel goes down the return and back to the tank. That's it.

The advisor may be confused as to the location of the pump. On 2003-2004.5 the pump was referred to as a lift pump and was mounted in the engine compartment on the back of the fuel filter canister.

Yep, what he said. I dont think that advisor knows what he's talking about because there's no part of the engine that has anything to do with fuel delivery. I'm thinking he may be actually talking about the FCA on the CP3.
