Looking at a 24 valve and 12 valve.
I'm looking at a 98 12 valve, and a 98.5 24 valve.
The 12 valve has more rust but five hundred less and been kdp killed. And fuel plate.131,000 miles. The 24 valve has 141,000 miles and one rust hole below door and is completely stock. Which should I go for? Which one has more issues typically? Are these trucks one of the ones that have the 2000 fuel system? Any thing else I should look for? Strokin' Away |
Go for that 12v for sure! That p pump engine will live forever.
|
Well I don't like that its got rust and really lots of it over wheel wells and door bottoms and it's stock transmissob

Are they manual or auto?
|
Both auto.

buy the 12v and shove it in your ford.
|
Both are good trucks, I like the simplicity and reliability of the 12 valve. Wheelwell rust is an easy fix, just replace the whole box or fenders. The rockers and floors require a little more work but can be restored. :c:
|
Yeah.well I like the 24 simply because it's unmolested no upgrades bone stock, where as the 12 valve does and he hasn't owned that long.

24 valve is the way to go. add pusher pump and gauges you'll be all set.
|
I'd do the 24V if its cleaner. Also just a personal engine preference of mine too, you'll get opinions from both sides though! If you get the 24V just be sure to set aside an extra 500 bucks or so to put a good lift pump on it! That's a must.
One hole in the rockers usually opens up the flood gates to a lot more though. My gas '99 started that way, and the fenders and box quickly followed despite frequent washings. Just be aware theres a lot you cant see! |
I know I'm going to look it over really really good because this Is the last truck I'll be getting for awhile, fiancé I'd getting irritated about my truck habits.lol. I'd the pusher pump a common down fall or just adds power?

The stock lift pumps are inadequate and fail often, even if you dont play around with a tuner, ( which I'm sure you'll want to eventually ). Main point, WHEN ( not if ) the lift pump goes, it takes the 1200 dollar injection pump with it!
|
F*** me, ok first thing then.lol.fiancée won't be happy about that but oh well. Which brand is recommended? It's a daily driver, not a drag racer for me needs to be reliable.

Both FASS and Airdog are both excellent choices. I would HIGHLY reccommend the Airdog Raptor 100 FRRP. It's 300 bucks, fast install with no dropping the tank like the FASS and other air separator pumps that cost a lot more.
I haven't had any issues. My buddy also runs one with his edge juice, and it holds a steady 14 PSI at full throttle in the hot setting. The stock lift pump would fail in minutes with that tune. |
Ok.yeah I don't want nothing extreme, just reliable, all I plan is pump, intake, gauges and mate injectors because I can get them for 250 a set

i'm not sure about air dog but the fass pumps have a lifetime warranty and install easy
|
well first off i like the 24 valve just make sure you do the fass or air dog upgrade with some gauges than the fun starts and the money leaves your wallet you will not stop until you make it an animal just my opinion but start with the fuel system first and second what type of injectors are we talking about?:c:
|
12v will last longer. id get the one with lesser rust and cleaner
|
Well I didn't get either.the 24 valve is sold and the 12valve is to rusty for me
Strokin' Away |
you cant hurt a 12 valve that is what i would go for
|
Why don't you just change fiancees and buy the truck you really want.
