High Idle Mod

Hi Guys
Dont hold it against me but I am a 6.0 guy, But I need to ask a question for my son who has a early 2000,s dodge. He is wondering if there is a high idle mod that can be easily done to his diesel like I did on my 05 6.0 ford.My mod was as simple as just conecting the correct two wires together. Thanks in advance for any info.:humm:

It would depend on the year. 03-04 it will high idle up to 1000 rpm but it is temp controled. I believe 04.5-up you can manually idle up using cruise control. Not too sure though, as I have an 03, which year you could manually do it.

98.5-02 can enable high idle, and high idle with 3 cylinder cut out. A dealership can install the software necessary, or a Smarty. Temperature controls which high idle is used. 32* and under for high idle, 10* and under for 3cyl high idle, i believe.

High Idle

I have the 2004.5, it goes to high idle (1000 rpm) in the colder weather. Defineltly temp. controlled.

Very simple to install just factory style connectors and then run the wires through the firewall to the control box. I just purchased mine for $158 shipped.

It is an option, most of the time you have to have it flashed on by the dealer or a tuner like smarty. Yes some trucks came with it enabled but most of those trucks are sold up in the colder territory. :c:

colinheitshusen 01-13-2012 08:09 AM

Easier done to just have the dealer do it. My 2000 has it flashed and its temp controlled. I think its less than 32 for high idle but it is 10 and under for 3cyl high idle. sucks a lot more fuel but works like a champ.

is the high idle automatic with any smarty tune or is there a menu that i have not found? I have heat and power for grid heater overnight but through the day she gets cold and lonely in the parking lot at work

colinheitshusen 01-13-2012 10:24 AM

Im about 90 pecent sure the smarty is temp controlled, but dont hold me to it.

There should be an option in the main menu of the smarty I believe to enable high idle. Yes they are all temp controlled. If you get the High Idle Fooler which is what my previous link was to. That fooler allows you to kick it into high idle and 3 cylinder idle when ever you want.

Just some more info on High Idle and its parameters.(below):c:

You need a feeler gauge (.10 and .20), barring tool, allen keys and some standard and metric wrenches/sockets. Also an extra set of hand definitely helps.

did it slightly resemble a generator? haha

Nutty Jeeps 01-19-2012 08:53 PM

I don't remember honestly. I have been getting up at 5 this week for work and I usually don't have to be up till 7:30 so I'm a little out of it. It's done high idle before but it sounded different this morning so I'd bet it did the three cylinder thing. scared me for a second when it sounded different.

3 cylinder high idle sounds so bad ass! I think it has to be 10*F for it to kick in?
