stick to your guns, because insurances companies are only trying to get you out of the picture as cheaply as the can. See what they offer you for your truck. And since it was the others guys fault, They aren't entitled to take your truck. They do have to pay you for the damages encured. It's up to you weather or not you release the truck to them. YOu might double check this with your insurance agent. Then I would make a injury claim. Even if its just a little whiplash, your still entitled for compensation for dealing with the pain and suffering.

I need to come up with receipts for everything I have done with the truck since I bought it if I want a fair value, and of course I don't have all of them :argh:

I would say that may depend on the agent and company. About 10 years ago my wife's daughter totaled her (my wife's) Acura and they were trying to pay her minimal amount as always. The neighbor and I thought it was not bad and about what it was worth. I had done some work to it and she had a new stereo put in and a couple other things I don't recall. In the end she got the insurance to come up with about 30% more $$ with out too much trouble or showing any receipts. She can be very persuasive when she wants something and in a manner that does not put you off, which is helpful. I don't work very well that way. :dang: :nope: :humm:

Yeah I checked kbb and got about 7 thousand private sell if I remember right without factoring in all the additions and improvements. If I could get them to factor everything in no matter what id be looking at probably 3 to 5 grand up. Got new vp, washer tank, heated power tow mirrors, lift pump, stereo including amp capacitor and subs, new rad hoses, gauges, shift knob, chip, parking light, window tint, goose neck, bed liner, clutch in newer condition, intake, exhaust, air vents for windows, etc. Stuff adds up quick. Just have to get it to count towards value so I can get a good check. They said if I buy it back I'll get the check for value minus 30%. So technically I pay nothing for it just lose 30% of my value check. If I can get it valued at 10 for an example i'll get the truck and a 7 grand check. Which should make fixing it up easy. And have enough to paint the whole truck and maybe some goodies with leftovers :tu:

Insurance companies, don't use KBB or sites like that to determine, the value of your truck. They use another program, that lists prices of what cars and truck sold for off car lots. They find the best comparable vehicle and pay you what that one sold for. I have a Bro in law that is a insurance adjuster and my wife is a licensed insurance agent.

My mother had something similiar happen she Tboned a guy that ran a red light. Totaled her 98 Dodge Neon. car was only realisticly worth about 1000 bucks. After her insurance adjuster looked at it. and checked their source. they paid her 26-2700 bucks for the car. Now that was her experience, so don't get your hopes up. But once everything is said and done you should be alright. "buy" back the truck for 7-800 bucks, take the rest to buy the parts you need, and put your truck back together.

Eh they don't do it that way. They find the value like you said but I forgo 30% of my value check to get the truck back. So if I get value at 10k then I basically pay 3000 to get it back. I wont actually pay but I will get a check for 70% of said value if I choose to keep it.

The insurance company ls more concerned about the total injury value to you and your passenger than they are about the truck. If you get screwed it will be because you are more worried about the truck value than your injuries value.

The injury money will hardly be anything. We didn't miss any work and have not been horribly injured. Likely just getting a little more than the bills for the doctors.

On another note before coming back with receipts the insurance offered 12260 and some change for my truck. I wasn't expecting more than 9. I think I may just take it. If the frame is tweaked then it could be more trouble than its worth sadly. And considering I haven't had a change to even try driving it any small bit it could more issues than cosmetic and front end. I hate to give up my baby but I think maybe its time to part. Considering they are offering more than 5000 over blue book I think I should take it.
