2000 Cummins up and died?
Hey my buddy has a 00 cummins auto with 200,000+miles. Today it just quit him on the highway, he said it didnt sputter or nothin just dead. He claims he has fuel to the IP. I am gonna get my scantool tomorow and check it out. Any ideas on this would be awesom! I will post my findings. Thanks, Chad.

Having pressure at the vp means nothing, if he cracks a line, cranks it, and gets no fuel, then you know the pump quit. 99 out of 100 times when a 24v "up and dies" its because the pump went. He could pull the codes with the key trick.

Ok well i will check the injector lines for fuel. Would you be so kind to inform me about the "Key Trick".

Sure .. Insert your ignition key. Turn it to the OFF position. Now turn it ON, OFF, ON, OFF, ON in less than 5 seconds. Leave it in the on position. In the odometer display it should start to display codes. It starts with P PCU errors. This is to notify you that the error codes are coming. They would show up as Pnnnn. All error codes are listed in 4 digits. Write down all Pnnnn error codes that are displayed. P Done will notify that P PCU error code list is done. Now we display P ECU errors. This is to notify you that the error codes are coming. They would show up as Pnnnn. All error codes are listed in 4 digits. Write down all Pnnnn error codes that are displayed. This is notify that P ECU error code list is done. Now turn your key off.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Always make sure you see P Done Twice! It really common to see on the forums where some says "Oh my I got a P1693 and that's it" It's impossible to have just a P1693 error code by itself. So more that likely the owner saw the P Done and shut the key off and didn't allow for the ECM to display its errors. |
Okay, he took care of it a split second before me :D But you wont see p-done twice because it's a 2000 :tu:

Its sure crazy how each make is so much different! I just got through fixing a 99 stroke, that high pressure oil system is so much different. One guy looked at it and said it needed a new hpop and was gonna cost 3 grand! I finally traced it down to a no fuel issue. Did not take any new parts either.

Did you just mention a powerstroke in the 24v forum :raygun:
