A/C stuck in defrost

So today I left my truck running at work to cool off when I started it it ran fine in the dash vents. After I got back in it was coming out the defrost. I turned the ac off and back on and it came out the Dash vents then went straight to defrost... :argh: I checked the vac lines from the pump to where it goes in to the cab and it all looked good. Im not sure whats wrong but its got me pissed its hot out there! there is one other vac line thats going to the front drivers side but I dont know what that is. Any help would be great. Also is there any way to tell if my vac pump it dead? other than the ac. Thanks so much:c:

Check the vacuum servo and make sure it's operating the damper,if the servo is shifting then the damper has came loose or it's broken internally......not a pleasant fix!

dcpowell17 07-23-2011 07:59 AM

I smell a complete dash removal! Sorry Bacon...:argh:

Also I found out my cruise control is not working anymore too. Both of these items worked as of 4:30 yesterday.....

Smoke 'em 07-23-2011 11:21 AM

I have the same problem with the AC:argh:

1slow24 07-23-2011 11:46 AM

both of those are vacuum controlled so my guess is check your vacuum lines first:tu:

Smoke 'em 07-23-2011 01:57 PM

I am gonna sound really stupid but wht does a vacuum line look like and where is it located?

I'm going to check all my connections and hoses tonight it's kinda pissing me off >:( if it's the pump I'll prob find a small dc powered pump to run when the key is on instead of pulling the power steering and vac pump off

So I'm going to check all my lines tomorrow after work. I looked online and a new pump is 400+ bucks!!!!! I looked online and I can get a 2003-2006 vac pump that is elec for 150... If I wire it to come on with the motor will that work? It says it will hold 17psi and turn on at 11psi. That sound like a good idea?

I take it ill have to take the front cover off to pop the gear to get the whole thing off...:s: Im likeing the idea of rigging a DC powered one more and more....

tworks 07-24-2011 01:12 PM

I dont think you need to pop front cover there is a cross drive that just pulls apart and then both p/s pump and vac. pump come out. Have you just pulled a line off with truck running to see if vac. is there. My main line comes up from pump to just beside blue pressue cylinder of hydroboost. It has a check valve in it. Is it a 4x4? If so make sure that lines going to front end and t/case are not off. Hope this helps pt

No its a 2x4 I'm going to take each hose off and check them for cracks. Then check the pump... This all happened after I took the truck to get a oil change at the local shop

On a 2 wheel drive the only things controlled are the AC vents and cruise control right? Because that's all I can see in the line comes from the pump to a t them one line to the back pass side by the trans fluid dipstick and then a line to the front drivers side connects to something under the battery

Smoke 'em 07-24-2011 05:50 PM

Take pictures please! Lol

tworks 07-24-2011 07:00 PM

Sorry I'm not too sure on a 2wd. I would check at the pump main hose first and if there is nothing there while running then the pump has gone south . If there is vac. there...then check all the rest of the hoses. On mine the line going under batt. is to the vac. canister and yes the other one goes through firewall by a/c lines to controls pt

If I knew how to post from my black berry I would do it. lol pt

Heres pics I did on my iPhone but I got to post one at a time... Here's the vac pump. The power steering pump is right behind it in green. Then you can see the main hose from the pump

Yeh, on your first pic, pull the hose off the brass block and check for vac. (with eng. running) there, or just under your check valve in pic #2 middle arrow. It needs to be more than just pulsing your finger tip. It should stick you finger to it. I just ran out and tried mine and it pulls tight to my finger. Another option for electric pump is a ford super duty vac pump from autowreckers . pt

Badass man Thx!:tu:

countryboy976 07-25-2011 02:45 AM

Mine done that too. i just unhooked it from the vac thing that opens and closes the lever to switch it from defrost to dash and zip tied the lever in the down position for a temp fix till i have time to troubleshoot it so it would blow out the dash

KillStroker 07-25-2011 03:49 PM

I just had the same problem there is a vac t-line that came up done up on the fire wall where all the wire bundles are. basically centered with steering wheel I accidently pulled it loose wiring my air dog same problem just defrost and no cruise control I will take a pic and post tomorrow .

BACONBITSFORU 07-25-2011 08:14 PM

You can pick up the vac line at any parts store. I know pep boys has different size line by the foot.
