BRE 06-23-2011 03:04 AM

1. Its CUMMINS!
2. This is the wrong section

Have a swell day!

banditsdiesel 06-24-2011 01:09 AM

well instead of being a jerk about something ill start by saying welcome to the site. and wrong or not where you post its not a big deal we will still help you. all you have to do is remove the air intake elbow then get a pick and a flat screw driver and pull the snap ring out and its done. just be carfeful not to stab yourself prying on it or stabing into the turbo. shouldnt take more than 10 minutes from start to finish. good luck on this if you need any more help please let some of us that are willing to help know.

RAW 06-24-2011 07:23 AM

Welcome to DB!
This link has some pictures and instructions in it for silencer ring removal.
https://www.dieselbombers.com/5-9l-2...ng-delete.html
This will make the turbo whistle louder, but you won't gain any performance.

jigga747de 06-25-2011 09:24 AM

just use pair of small screwdrivers and be careful

connermcpherson 06-25-2011 08:26 PM

U know, i read an article today that said the reason people are mean to others on the computer is the same reason people drink, gives you the same feeling. Instead of being a dick head..... WELCOME TO DB!!!!! :jump:

banditsdiesel 06-27-2011 02:52 AM

RAW 06-27-2011 10:16 PM

Brett Regier has not been back online since he made his first post. Never the less, this guy and many others are new to this site, and possibly forums in general. Let's treat them with respect and give them the help they are looking for. After all, he's not Rustin. :w2:

BRE 06-29-2011 07:03 AM

What do you want me to say? Im sorry?

Brett Regier 06-29-2011 06:35 PM

how much more boost will i get if i do it

RAW 06-29-2011 06:42 PM

Not a noticeable amount at all. It will produce a louder turbo whistle, but that's about it.

Brett Regier 06-29-2011 06:55 PM

ok so how do i get more smoke

RAW 06-29-2011 06:58 PM

Buddy, wrong question to the wrong guy!

EH..... Cheap and easy way.... you can even get it at wall mart. Go back to the women"s section. Ask the clerk for a pair of extra large Granny panties. now go out to your truck and open the hood. put the panties on your head. take the bag they gave you and wrap it around the air filter jump in it and go. You will look just as dumb as the cloud coming out of the pipe.....

With that being said, 2 things.
1, your contradicting yourself. Your looking for more boost, which yields less smoke. Now your asking for more smoke? Smoke isn't power, it's wasted fuel.
2, If you want more smoke, you need to add more fuel. What have you done to your truck for modifications so far?

Brett Regier 06-29-2011 07:03 PM

i have just straight piped the exhaust and put a cold air intake on it

RAW 06-29-2011 07:12 PM

There is no smoke screw or anything like that on a 24valve Cummins. To add more fuel, you need a programmer, bigger injectors, or a different injection pump. But before any of that, I strongly suggest gauges and a better lift pump. A FASS or AirDog provide the filtration and flow that you need to keep you $1000+ injection pump happy and working.

skyler1101 06-29-2011 08:31 PM

snap ring tool man just pull it out

Ok now do you guys understand why I answer stupid questions with stupid answers?! Jesus

Lostnwalmart 07-01-2011 01:31 AM

Well sorry for calling it like I see it.. If he dosent have the mental capacity to use the gosh dang search button to get the procedure then why should I waste my time explaining why it's there in the first place. You will loose 3-4 hp pulling it out yes it will make more noise. Does the op understand how to read and research not everything will just be given out. Go ahead and flame me for being a dick but this guy has proven himself to be exactly what I thought with his last post. people with feelings on the internet make me laugh :pca1:

BRE 07-01-2011 02:16 AM

It's spelled wasting. Nice try. :tttt: If you're gonna correct someone on spelling, might as well double check your own spelling first.

If it was such a big deal, why go through all the trouble of even replying? I agree though, the search button really just doesn't get used enough. The issue is, he's new. Maybe new to forums in general. I didn't know how forums worked when I first signed up, everyone has to learn sometime man.

:c:

Exactly, we're all on the same team here. Sure we like to rag on each other over brands and what not, but at the end of the day we're all a bunch of diesel dudes and gals. If posts like his make you mad, you DON'T have to reply... someone will, it's a pretty big forum.

Lostnwalmart 07-02-2011 03:26 AM

I think if the person has less than ten posts the search button should take up half the screen and flash lol. You are right was just having a rough day which were all entitled to every once in a while.:c:

countryboy976 07-08-2011 07:58 AM

will removing the silencer ring damage the turbo or loose some power

RAW 07-08-2011 08:09 AM

will removing the silencer ring damage the turbo or loose some power
It causes no damage, and no HP loss. All it will do is make the turbo whistle louder.

AllWeatherBomber 07-10-2011 02:28 AM

whether it is actually true or not i just read in diesel world or diesel power ( cant remember which) that removing the silencer ring will slightly improve airflow. and also make the turbo whistle more pronounced...which isnt for everyone.

RAW 07-10-2011 10:41 AM

I read the same thing, and laughed a little.

Oh crap my bad grammar nazi!

Let me apologize and correct myself...

I was a bit of a jerk and replied a little harsh. Simply remove the silencer ring by removing that snap ring in front of it. Simple thing.
The smoke, you can unhook intercooler boots for that type of thing or lets try some 200's with a redline and smarty combo or, a monster pump with and edge comp, all of which are being used on a stock charger. You will have smoke....

While your there with your smoke, go ahead and read the fact that edge/superchip will no longer be selling race style programmers and such as of July 12th... Hummmm I wonder if thats because of people and their smoke...

I apologize for using the wrong "style" if you will of waste/waist. Please dont ban me or make a permanent mark in my signature...

Once again my utmost apologies...

Lostnwalmart 07-13-2011 04:49 AM

Removing the silencer ring has been proven to lose 3-4 hp. It is there to smoth the intake air and be less turbulent. I don't think 3-4 hp is worth not having the whistle but then again I would just buy a new turbo..
