rebuild the old or in with a new.

ok so in the worst case scenario and my trucks engine craps out. should i rebuild it or get a new one?

Unless a rod goes through the block, rebuild. I haven't priced it out, but I think your looking at $10k plus for new. Way cheaper to rebuild, maybe $2k with upgrades.

dieselboy88 11-06-2010 08:32 PM

whoa. i was thinkin mayb 3 or 4k. thats effin insane!!

Farmboy 2.0 11-06-2010 08:45 PM

Yeah if the blocks still fine just do a rebuild on it. It will be cheaper in the long run

rednekroper05 11-06-2010 08:48 PM

as long as the block is still good rebuild it. the cost of a rebuild will vary alot on how much machine work your engine is gonna need.
the 10k on a new engine is about right atleast thats all the ones i have seen going for

dieselboy88 11-06-2010 09:21 PM

Dodge Cummins diesel Silver Vein Valve cover, 24 Valve - Dodge Cummins diesel engine valve covers, air intake tubes and more.

What makes you think you will have to rebuild your engine?

dieselboy88 11-06-2010 10:20 PM

nothing yet. but i can hear a knock in my engine and i was always taught to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. :tu:

anotheraznguy 11-07-2010 01:11 AM

now.. if you had a 53 block.. would you rebuild or buy another block ??

sstockton 11-07-2010 02:09 AM

If I remember correctly, bare blocks aren't that expensive. So a new block may not be a terrible thing. As for the rebuild or replace. That can only be said on a case by case basis. I personally would build the engine, and while you are in there throw in a good cam, clearance the pistons and do some other work. Might as well do it right.
