Hunting 1st-2nd 2nd-1st

Hey guys so the tranny acted up acouple weeks ago after a good work out pulling 7k lbs of modrone fire wood. A week after the wood job when light on the throttle going from 1st to second it hunts in and out of second untill speed changes or I increase throttle. If I keep it busy with more throttle is shifts normaly maybe alittle sooner than usual. Its not burning the fluid at all and other than that lockup and everything is normal.

I took it to the tranny shop and they found two codes one was for charging system low and the other was something unknown, I will post the codes later when I find then again. They were thinking maybe the gov pressure solinoid. And they were thinking the low charging system was making it act up, that sounds like BS to me. It still starts perfectly normal and the batteries come up to voltage after a startup the same as always.

reset your APPS

Monster Truck 10-19-2007 09:48 PM

Did it twice

Heres the codes it threw,

P0234- overboost I get that all the time becuase of the turnbuckle
P1693
P1682
P1693

That last 2 they said were tranny codes.

2001shrtbedcummins 10-19-2007 10:06 PM

p1693 is a code stored in the pcm that cannot be read by the odometer window check. It takes a full on scanner for that one.

Monster Truck 10-19-2007 10:13 PM

They all were done by a full scanner. And the odometer code check isnt on a 99

2001shrtbedcummins 10-19-2007 10:55 PM

oh yea...forgot about that with the 99...wait...1693...I retract my statement...I don't quite remember.

You need a boost fooler :pca1:

Monster Truck 10-20-2007 11:42 AM

p1693 DTC Detected In companion Mode, What the hell is that?
P1682 Charging System Voltage Too Low, could this just have been throw whe the grids were cycleing in the morning?
P1693 Again ^^^
Then overboost code but thats nothing.

How do I do a hard APPS reset? I was thinking its the apps also but I did a reset and nothing.

Actually that can cause a lot of problems. With our trucks having several computers on board trying to communicate with each other a split second low voltage condition will cause havoc. I had an issue with my truck not charging properly and it was causing all kinds of problems like erratic shifting, security system wouldnt let me in the truck, and the vanes on my turbo would open and close at random while cruising. Turned out to be a bad cell in one battery that would intermittently draw the system down. The Allison learns how to shift the truck according to driving habits and when the voltage would drop the computer would reset the TAPS and it would start shifting crazy.

Monster Truck 10-20-2007 12:41 PM

I was thinking if its anything its probably the BATTS becuase it looks like its the stock ones.

DangerousDuramax 10-20-2007 12:45 PM

Stock batteries suck. The AC Delco's we get in the DMax are lucky to last two years. Do a load test on your batteries and then on the charging system. Also, get an amp probe and attach it to one of the negative cables and see how much current your system is drawing.

Monster Truck 10-20-2007 02:13 PM

Ijust went out and did a bunch of voltage readings, After sitting all night the batts were at 12.50, load test they came down to 12.24. started it up and they came right up to 14.30. When the grid heater cycled it never came below 12.60. After the grids and everything was done cycleing it would bounce between 14.26-14.32. So it seems everything checks out in the voltage department. Batterys are From 02 BTW I thought they were stock.

DangerousDuramax 10-20-2007 02:15 PM

Sounds like everything is good there. You might have an intermittent issue with the alternator or one of the batteries. Just guessing now that everything checks good.

My truck does this sometimes but not to bad. Seems like it occurs when the truck is cold.

Monster Truck 10-20-2007 05:18 PM

I will give that a shot tommorow. It does seem like the apps would be whats going on becuase the kickdown is off as well and I dont think its ever been correct.

It is definetly worse when cold. sometimes it shifts perfectly.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 10-20-2007 05:32 PM

I checked my APPS Voltage and my Kick Down Cable but neither seemed to affect this problem. It doesnt do it all the time so most the time I dont even notice it. I need to adjust my kick down cable again so I can firm up my shift just a touch.

DB Admin 10-20-2007 05:43 PM

George if the apps reset dont work isolate the apps wires from the main Wiring harness going to the ECM

this is what fixed my truck for good

Monster Truck 10-20-2007 07:12 PM

Ive never had any problems up till now though why would something like this happen all of the sudden? Where is the kickdown cable? I thought it was electric Id like to adjust that as well.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 10-20-2007 07:29 PM

Im sure someone on here has some pics of the Kick Down Cable to post????

shilo 10-22-2007 09:38 AM

how do you reset the apps?

Monster Truck 10-22-2007 07:47 PM

Disconect both batts

Trurn the key on to run and let truck sit for a minnimum of 30mins

Turn key off

Reconnect Batts

Trun key to run (Do Not Start) and slowly depress the go pedle and slowly let it back up.

Turn Key off

Start truck and go.

Hey Guys I did the apps voltage and it was off so I got it within .3 of the spec and now the problem is fixed. Its amazing the difference, faster spook more pickup better shift points just feels all around smoother.

Is there a right up on adjusting the kick down somewhere?

mysterync 10-28-2007 08:29 PM

this may have been solved , Hopefully, but i just fixed one today that the Data plug on the tranny was loose and corroded causing the same issues!

Monster Truck 10-28-2007 10:14 PM

Thats a very good possibilty. Its still doing it!

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

I also erased the codes when I did the apps voltage and there are still no codes.
