Dodge Conversion for my 2001 3500

I also have a 2001 DODGE 3500 dually in which I desperately want to convert to a single wheel. I want to convert it without having to change the rear axle if I can. As for the bed are there options I can do? I can do a flat bed but I want a topper so replacing the bed with a used one can be expensive. I cannot afford to replace my truck and mine has only 94,000 miles on it. I am not a mechanic and although I can need some more details on the conversion. I am pretty sure I have drums in the back so how far will my wheels stick out?
Do the spacers in the front hubs need to be removed?

The axle in the back does not need to be changed.. It is only 2" wider than a standard axle. You will never know the differance. The front adaptor is simpley bolted on and has the same lug bolt pattern. You remove it and put you new wheels on. The bed can be a used bed that's what I used. I would say try and find a diesel bed because if not you will have to buy a new fuel nozzle. The bed is attached to the frame by 8 bolts and the standard "single wheel" bed attaches in the same holes.. I had an 01 that I did the swap on its not to bad :tu:

Thanks. This will make it easier and cheaper as I do not want to buy another axle. How much do you think a bed can cost?

It all depends I got mine for 350..

As for the bed I know if you take the flares off the wheel well is larger and there are holes in it. Are there flare kits I can buy that will cover this or is it just better to get another bed?

Sold my bed for 1,000 and wheels tires and adapters for another 1,000

Get another bed... Or you will be filling 24 holes a 4" hole where the fuel nozzle comes through then buying fender flares

350 is cheap. My truck is also white so that will make it easier. When you said that the axle is 2 inches wider is that on 2 inches on each side or combined?

Smittyloopster 11-17-2012 12:36 PM

Get another bed

My bed is in perfect shape so I should get close to that. Thanks for your help. You willing to answer more questions later?

Each side. Look at the pictures above he didn't change his axle either
