something weird

The other day I was driving down the road and my check guages light came on as was my air bag, abs and brake light, my voltage was down low and all of a sudden the tach and speedo make a full sweep and no bus pops up in my trip meter. It hasn't happened since but the abs and brake light have been coming on every once in awhile . Any tips would be great.

check your grounds would be the first thing i would do some on your left front fender and at your pcm just to name a few :humm:

I agree sounds like a loose and/or dirty connection at a connector - dont have any more info for you.

Hey thanks. This site is great! Great group of guys!

Check for codes to.Check all connections on the battery and grounds. There is a ground by the PCM.you should check to.Keep use posted.

It did it again tonight but this time the check engine, abs, low fuel, and no guages would work. Turned it off and back on finally I pulled out the keys and started it again and it was normal. It poped up with the "NO BUS" in the trip meter again to.

That means there is a connection loose or fuse betwwen the ECU and PCU.

this may have nuthin to do with your problem but my the voltage gauge dropped real low in my 02 on the way to work one day, the truck was runnin fine... i got to work and tried to leave about an hour later and the batterys were totally dead, my buddy had a crappy set of jumper cables and we hooked them up and they started melting before i even touched the key. i finally figured out my grid heater solenoid had shorted out and stuck on i disconnected it and put the jumper cables back on and they no longer were tryin to melt and the truck fired right up and i had to buy a new set of batterys and they aint very cheap so just a heads up might wanna keep an eye on it

Ok thanks for the heads up. I googled the code and came across a bunch of people that had the same problem and they said it was the connector under the hood for the fuse panel in the engine compartment. I haven't looked at mine yet but will today.

Now here is my recent problem you turn to the left truck is fine you tur to the right gauges go off nobus pops up and on the over head consol it says ccd. I think I might take it to the dealler for this one?

cummins.1.5.3.6.2.4 03-12-2010 12:23 AM

sounds like a eletrical mess to me... i would take it to the dealer if it were me since i hate electrical stuff

Dr. Evil 03-12-2010 11:40 AM

I would personally try to do some more investigating before I took it to a dealer. Thats the last resort in my book.

If you turn left and have no problems and then turn right and have problems - sounds like some insulation is worn through and you have a dead short to the body/chassis.

I would search out a good autoelectric shop if you are near a major city.

How does the truck run otherwise? And codes come up?

Hamllik 03-13-2010 07:03 PM

No codes truck runs normal. It hasn't done it since my last post. I pulled apart the under part of the dash and everything looks good. I hate electrical grimalins.

dont feel lonely, i hate them to, im with DR. Evil tho the dealer is the last option. just look over in the areas where theres any movement and pull and clean all the grounds. if you have installed gages, look good under the dash for loose wires (been there done that)

Dr. Evil 03-14-2010 11:59 PM

Make sure ALL your grounds are good, body to frame, engine to frame etc. If I remember right, there are about 5 grounds to account for.
