I am thinking that it might be the blower resistor, being that it only has high the fan is at the straight 12v speed the resitsor would step down the voltages to lower the fan speed. It is under the glove box in the heater/ac housing should be faily accessable.

i think blkjack it on the head our gas mech here is always changing them for the same reason :humm:

Uncle Bubba 02-24-2010 03:14 PM

Change that resistor out and it's fixed, for now. The problem here is that those resistor are like $60 or somethin around there and if your fan bearings are goin bad they will keep blowin it. I went through 3 of em before I got smart enough to replace the fan.

The resistor that blkjack is talkin about is between the blower motor and the firewall. It has two phillips head screws. Its batween 50 and 60 bucks at Napa.

I have the same problem too - only works on high. Still havent gotten around to fixing it.

dennhop 02-24-2010 05:02 PM

yup, resistor is what fixes the immediate problem, but might want to start looking for a new blower motor...I went through two resistors, at 100 bucks a pop from the dealer, in 1 month, before I got smart...

When I bought my truck it had the same issue. Pulled out hte resistor pack for the motor, and found a solder broken on the connections. Resoldered it, and it has been holding for the last 8 months. I believe this is a very, VERY common problem regaurdless of the logo on the front of the truck.

yup blower resistor just replaced mine yesterday mine was cracked and the soldier was broken so for 54 bucks now i got my different settings

Seems like blower motors are made with cheap bearings. The logo doesnt matter.:humm:

i agree i had a 99 1500 and the dealer told me the sma ething, my heater core went out on me and mine went bad, thats what they said to replace.

Whit 03-09-2010 07:08 AM

well I messed this one up, yesterday I took a look and figgered the resistor must be in that lil box under there, poped it loose and a small motor and 2 plastic gears fell out, its the damn door actuator for the heater, now I cant get that POS back together, no damn room under there

RAW 03-09-2010 07:46 AM

Damn, that really sucks. I hope you don't have to pull the dash and the entire heater control box out to fix it. If you do, it's not that bad really. Enlist a buddy, a case of beer, and a day.
If you haven't found the one you are looking for, it is near the fan, 2 screws holding it in place. Towards the front, and left of the blower motor itself. Right beside the fan motor cooling tube. At least that is where mine is.

exactly what I found...........on the resistor itself there is a small jump leg on one of the terminals going over to another leg, the solder broke loose so I just re-soldered and its all good now

Dr. Evil 03-29-2010 04:34 PM

Theres not much better than a free fix. Dealer would have charged you $600 for that.

RAW 03-29-2010 07:12 PM

Glad that's all it was!!:jump::jump::jump:
