4x4 problems
98 Dodge 2500.
I can't get it in 4x4 unless I am stopped or at a crawl. If I try to shift it doing let's say 30-40mph it normally won't go in, just will grind. This doesn't seem normal and is a hassle when I hit icy roads and have to pull over to get it in 4x4. Any thoughts on what I need to look at?? This a problem for anyone else? My theory is because the front driveline isn't turning in 2wd, I'm not able to sync together the rear and front while I'm moving. |
no you cant put it in 4x4 while rollin only if its on demand 4x4 can you do that you will just have to continue the way you are doing it

I can put mine into 4x4 while im going up to 50mph... Are you sporting different front and rear size tires? Any large change in driveline speed from front to back is bad! Like smaller tires in front vs back... Thats also epically bad for your xfer case too!

Hope we r talking about 4x4 HIGH ED

vacumn leak or prob with the vacumn acuator in the front axle housing which slides the collar to connect the split front axle shafts together. and as you mentioned the fact that the front drive shaft is not turning also contributes to difficulty even when it is working as it should be.
my choice is to remove the vac acuation garbage. |
4x4 Posi-Lok - 4WD Engagement Systems
check that out nate. tis what i put on my 98.5 also offers a 2wd low range for backing trailers. |
I'm with Muddy, it sounds like a vacuum leak or the pump gettin weak. I drop mine in and out all the time sloppin through the mud no problem at all.
Only time I had any problems was when the selector lever had to be adjusted cause the bolt that connected to the transfer case came lose. |
