mine did the same exact thing and it was just the injection pump when i first got it. would idle just fine but would not rev up at all, just spit and sputtered.

Before you go throwing lots of money at this sucker, do you know for sure it is getting enough fuel flow to run? Running homebrew, there is a chance you have gunk buildup in a fuel line somewhere that is restricting it to where it can't do more than idle. Kind of like the gelling situation I got into this morning at -22F. Anyway, just a thought, Good Luck!

Whoa back here a little before ya go spendin a bunch a money. Back to basics. What is your fuel pressure showing on this thing both at idle and WOT. Have the EGT's changed much here lately. Have it checked for codes with a scanner, write down any they find and then have them cleared. Drive the truck for a while and have them checked again to see what comes back and this will tell the whole story if the computer is bad.

Pull the injectors and take them to a shop. Around my parts it cost me $25 to have them cleaned and pop tested at the local Bosch Service Center. Money well spent before you spend the big bux.

Bad APPS can do this as well.

Mine does the same thing intermittantly going down the road. It will suddenly dump throttle, and feels like your peddal went dead. I put in an apps already and no change. I think it is more a fuel delivery problem to the pump or injectors. I have a new vp and airdog 100 I am putting in today to see if I am right. I really hope I am.

havent had a chance to have it scanned yet. good idea though need to get that done pretty sure its the pump had some signs of going bad didnt recognise them till it was too late. at around 24-2700 rpm it lost about 25%power then came back @ around 3000. my plan is to possibly rebuild the thing cause i cant afford a $1000+ new or rebiuld pump, one of the reasons im running bio fuel. has anybody done or attempted one of these rebuilds? also how difficult would it be to put my 12v 94' into my 99 both ton trucks but 94 is auto 2wd 99 is stick 4x4. wouldnt im agine its a big deal since i have access to a shop on the weekends and have my 94 stowed away there

You cannot rebuild these pumps yourself. They must be bought "rebuilt" unless you have a Bosch calibration bench tester....As the others have said, you need to have the truck checked for codes first before anything else. Many times a VP will die and not throw any codes at all, but some common ones are 1689 and 0216. The 0216 is what I am guessing your truck will show when it is scanned, seeing as the truck will at least start.

With the truck running, begin cracking injector lines at the head and see how much fuel is coming out. It should be enough that within 30 seconds, you have quite the puddle on the ground. If there is little to no high pressure fuel coming from your injector lines, your pump is most likely shot.
